Freelink.org is a site I found recently that I really like. You can post your favorite bookmarks there to share with others. They need no password, only your webaddress. Be sure that if you sign up you use the username that you want to be part of the url. I made one to share with colleagues and one to share with students (game sites, etc.).
I used Hotchalk as my class web page last year and loved its simlicity. They are in the process of making changes to it, so I can only hope it will still be as useful and easy as it was. It is free, and you can upload documents and powerpoints. I didn't use it, but it also has the option of using it for assignments, gradebook, and class rosters.
For collaboration though, I've used Zoho.com. The interfaces are nearly identical to Office 03 and I thought that would be easier for my students to use. We used spreadsheets extensively as well as Show (powerpoint). We also used the email system for class communications.
The only problem we had was bandwidth - we would often times freeze up. To avoid that, I had the kids download their file and work on their desktop and then re-upload it.
I've also looked at these sites for online content/curriculum management systems: Wiggio SchoolWebLockers Zimbra wiki
A class of mine, and myself are currently building a Computer Applications course for a teacher. It is massive in its scope, but the lessons with be primarily in PDF form, with a few videos thrown in. I am having the kids build the main menu as an accordian spry menu.
Bottom line, don't let it overwhelm you. I have a ton of stuff on my site and you are welcome to use any of it to fit your needs.
We are a private school of 175 and we rent our facilities, so I can only do so much with wires. The school office has internet through our phone company. We use a Wireless G 2.4 GHZ Broudban Router with a speed booster to get internet access to the classrooms down the hall. The teachers are using laptops.
If a teacher is logged on for too long, the screens seem to flip. Other times signals are lost.
Any suggestions to improve our signals? I don't seem to be getting a lot of helpful suggestions. I may have to call someone, but I would like to have an idea as to what to ask them to do.

We have 2 floors and two sepearate areas - about 350 students, K- 12. The APs use the same SSID, and a user can move seamlessly between the wireless coverage areas.

East End Long IslanderThe other suggestion is to add a booster box to your incoming DLS/cable connection -- you need to talk to your provider about this. In my house, that helped dramatically, and I had to move my router and modem to a central location to provide a better signal to my various wireless computers.
If the boss thinks so highly of you, then you should ask for a copy of Dreamweaver. One license will not break the bank if you get the educational price. DW has a whole class of "Sprys" that allow you to do just what you want, and a slew of other things.
If Mrs. Boss will pay, then go for the Adobe Creative Suite 4 Web or Design Premium package. Acrobat is great as is Fireworks. You will be a very happy camper and will have some great tools to play...I mean...work with.
My school is switching over to a new network/server, is there any way to make sure that all the settings from my previous profile will be the same under my new profile? (for example my start menu, favorites under IE, etc...)
