I have 34 third graders this year and am looking for a similar sized 3rd grade class that would like to be pen pals. We're in Phoenix, AZ. Let me know if interested! Thx! Susan
I interviewed for a third grade position this morning and I have a really good feeling about it. I will be teaching writing and English to about 45 third graders. I am interesting in a pen pal exchange. We are from Ohio. I saw your response to the teacher from Miami whose also looking for a pen pal exchange. Maybe we could all work together and make things interesting for our students. I hope to hear about the job by the end of the week. I'll keep in touch. You can email me at [email removed]
Teri, I'm sure my students would really enjoy getting to know your students. My class size hasn't been finalized yet, but I expect it to be between 22-27 students. Would that work for you? Our students would benefit in so many positive ways! By the way, we live in Columbia, Missouri... a city of around 100,000 in the heart of the state. Let me know what you think. Barb
This sounds wonderful. There is quite a contrast because we live in a small rural area. My email is Teri.[email removed]

I am looping up to 3rd Grade..I am wondering how do keep better track of student papers..Folders/pocket chart..I will go from 14 students to 22 so really need to focus on organization of papers..Thanks for any ideas you have:)
I used to have the kids keep their papers in color coordinated duo-tangs (red for math, blue for science, etc.) but they drove me crazy! After observing another teacher use binders effectively, that's what I do. I buy 1" binders on sale ($1 each) and resell them to the kids (or they can bring in their own 1" binder - most don't and buy from me). We keep all our work in these binders - they have 3 rings as well as 2 pockets, so everything can be kept there. We divide the binder into subjects. Once a unit or topic is done, corrected, tested, etc., then we put them in their assessment folders (2-pocket folders) which go home every 4-6 weeks.
I am doing an electronic portfolio this year. I began using it last year and really like it. Students either scan their work or type it in and save it to their e- portfolio. They can access it through my website, and can check it out at home if they want. Only complete/corrected work goes in the e-Portfolio.

Hi, I am looking for some multi step word problem worksheets. I would prefer only addition/subtraction problems but some simple multiplication can work too.
Any ideas of sites that I could find some printable worksheets?
I also have this book and instead of making copies, I put several in a sleeve and have students to do the work on notebook paper. We have a limit on our number of copies at our school.
Rose, we'd love to have you join our group. I'm in North Port Florida. We did not get a postcard person from every state, though, so we decided to do a bit different exchange. We'll work out more details as we go but for now we are thinking a science, social studies, art exchange. We planned to do our first exchange sometime in October. I'll email everyone as soon as things calm down a bit. You make person #5. Send me your email and I will send you our list and some ideas. :) e
Hi everyone! I'm an EIP support teacher this year (yay!), and it's my first year in 3rd grade. I'm serving in Reading and LA. I'm looking for some good 3rd grade guided reading books/novels to start the year. Could you all list a few books your 3rd graders enjoy and can comprehend early in the year? Thank you! Allyson
I could really use some suggestions from someone who has taught 3rd grade before...just list a few of your favorite guided reading books, particularly for kids who read below grade level. Thank you in advance for taking time to help me.
This will be my first year teaching the Macmillan/McGraw Hill "Math Connects" series...It seems pretty challenging to me, but then, that's one reason it was chosen! Any tips or thoughts from any of you who have taught with this series? Thx

Basic details: 26 teachers/classrooms each are assigned/choose one letter of the alphabet to write a Tongue Twister for. We mail one copy of our tongue twister to each of the other classrooms in the exchange by November 1st.
The way it works in my room is that my kids write a variety of tongue twisters (both for the assigned letter and for letters of their own choice) we choose the "best" tongue twisters to share and we type and illustrate those.
I'm looking for committed, reliable teachers. The last 3 times I've done the exchange there have been teachers who don't follow through which leaves us with incomplete Tongue Twister alphabet books.
