Hello all! For the first time we are not leveling for math this year. And, understandably, I have the very highs and the very lows, and the rest in-between. Advice? Teaching whole group is not working. I feel so bad for my two extremes! Any ideas? Open to all suggestions! Thank you!

If there are any here, could you please take my survey, it takes about 5-10 minutes. Really short, and it will be of great help.

Do third graders tend to read more chapter books or more picture books? It seems like the parents I'm dealing with expect their children to read more chapter books, but I'm finding that lots of them aren't ready for this yeat!

What 3rd graders read varies from community to community and from child to child. It's not uncommon for parents to want to see their children doing more complex work in any subject and keeping parents feeling comfortable and yet working with the kids at their comfort level is a delicate balance.
I'd say keep lots of different books in your classroom library. Keep an eye out for simpler chapter books. Those kids that are ready to read chapter books certainly should be.
Your post isn't clear as to what the parents want of you - to switch up your classroom reading? Usually schools assign certain books to be read and you can always tell parents, "This is a district decision but I keep many chapter books in the classroom library and Susan is welcome to take those books home for all of her independent reading."
