I am a teacher in NYC. I have 5 years teaching experience (first grade) and a masters. What would the average rate be for private tutors? Where can I find students to tutor?
The average rate for tutoring per hour is $60 for k-12 subjects. I have a friend who charges and gets $70 an hour another that charges $65 and two that charge $50 an hour and they all have steady students. I myself charge $75 an hour for college subjects, $75 for SAT prep and $65 for high school regents courses. The board of ed pays $40 an hour to the teachers for tutoring after school so if they person is truly certified they are nuts for taking $30. I remember my dad taking $40 an hour as a tutor 15 years ago. These are all rates in Brooklyn from my experience tutors in the city's rates are slightly higher. Good luck!

I charge 30 an hour for my private tutoring and I'm glad to get it. I also work for a private tutoring center...they pay me 25 an hour (off the books, and they do all the booking/dealing with parents for me...also line up all my appointments in bulk).
I've tried to charge 40 dollars an hour in the past and it's a tough sell, especially in current economic conditions.

I attended two weeks of OG training this past summer. It was great! We are also using the Barton Reading Spelling Program for tutors and parents. Directly based on pure OG.
