I need some ideas on how to introduce help students with summarizing text. This is for 4th grade. Thanks!

paulaj This is a tough area. One thing I do is choose a book or selection for "cross-out summarizing." My favorite for htis is one called Tree Frogs. It's non-fiction.

I teach the children to cross out all the unimportant words. But not or no or any negative word is important. I model that using sentences. Such as "I have money" and "I have no mo...See More
