I have a group of 25 third graders to "tutor" two hours a week in reading comprehension. I have materials to use, but with such a large group and short time period (1 hour, two mornings a week before school), I'm looking for ideas on how to make this most effective and NOT BORING! We'll need to do skills such as main idea, cause & effect, etc.

Our end-of-grade tests in North Carolina are very difficult, and they do include so many higher-level thinking questions, including cause & effect and drawing conclusions. Nora in Texas/3rd We use Tumblebooks on line and they are e-books that are read to the children and the words read to the children are highlighted. You can manipulate the pages manually or automatically. I check for the AR level provided so that it may be on level or close to 3rd grade level. Music, sound effects etc. maintain their interest.
