Does anyone have any ideas on how to make a classroom more cozy and inviting? I teach fourth grade at an upper elementary school, but our school feels more like a middle school than an elementary one. Next year I'd like to divide my room into "areas" like I hear the primary grades do. Any thoughts on "areas" or creating a comfortable, inviting space would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

O.P. Thanks for the suggestions. Due to fire hazards, we are not allowed to have anything hanging from the ceiling. We're also not allowed to have plug-in air fresheners. I'm a big thrift store/dollar store fanatic...so whatever I decide to buy will not be expensive.

Cyna It is hard to "cozy up" a room when you are not allowed to bring in furniture that isn't school issued. We went from an OLD run down school in which we had a hodge podge of classroom furniture and things to a brand new school with new EVERYTHING. While we LOVE our new school, we weren't allowed to bring our rugs, reading center couches and pillows,...See More

O.P. Thanks to everyone for their great suggestions. My classroom is on the smaller side and there are certain items (like the large wooden teacher's desk) that we can't move very much. I like the idea of an aquarium, although I might just keep it to a few goldfish. I also like the idea of plastic beanbags, shelves, and plants. I don't have room for a c...See More
