I agree that the web is an excellent tool to use. As educators we have an obligation to our students to provide guidance on proper and acceptable behavior while on the web.
T...See MoreI think we have barely scratched the surface and many of us are a bit timid in using the web with our students... but it is the path of today and the future.
Besides the difficulty with firewalls at school... what are some of the challenges of using the web at school... and what are some solutions that people have come up with?
The main problem at our MS is that we don't have computers in our classroom. We have one computer lab with 30 workstations for 1400 students. About the only time that I use it is for research papers.
I do use the web through my ceiling mounted projector for videos and different ideas for writing.
I love using the Internet, especially for interesting research! My students seem to be familiar with "Googling" for information, but most of them aren't research savvy at home. Is there anything I can do if my students lack access at home?
Our district is offering M i c r o s o f t’s M y S i t e to all of the district teachers. Is anyone familiar with this? How does it work? Do you find it effective? Any ideas of things to do on it?

Today I got an e-mail advertising StudyBlue online flashcards, which apparently is free. What interested me was that it was free and it has mobile apps for Apple and Andriod. Before I enter and create an account, I would like to get feedback about it. (I still haven’t invested time into doing some kind of online flashcards yet, although our textbook series has electronic flashcards online via the textbook website, with audio soundbytes.)
Website address: .

Yes, I heard of some people using it but they were not too happy with the tool. I know they recommended something else instead...let me get back to you once I find out exactly what the other website was called.
I reasonded to your question regarding StudyBlue yesterday but I couldn't remember the name of the website that got more 'likes'. Now I know what it is - [link removed]!
Hope it helps.

teach4I don't know if there is any age that is too young, but all children no matter their age need supervision. I personally believe that most under 10 need constant supervision, and older ones need 'drop in' supervision. As you are supervising them is the time to slowly start to educate them, explaining why you don't do certain things.
