Hi, I'm a newbie to CSS. I've coded my own CSS & XHTML and it looks great in Firefox 2 and IE6. When I view it in IE7, my photos seem to disappear. I have the photos floated left of the text. If I "unfloat" them, they're okay in IE7, but they look much better floated left.
My CSS & XHTML code validates at w3.org.
I've been searching the web for days for help with this problem. I've posted in other web development forums, and no one will help me! I'm so discouraged.
Please help, I'm ready to start whining, LOL. Here's a link to my CSS code: [link removed]:
It might make a difference to use Transitional instead of Strict.

Thanks both of you for your help. I searched Google and finally came up with another person who had the same problem. For whatever crazy reason, undoing the italics on the smaller header (h3) fixes the problem in IE7.
I'll also try the transitional doc type to see what happens.
I host a site that's been online for eleven years, and I've just been notified that my server is being retired. My hosting fees, which are $300 a year, are paid by a nonprofit organization.
In addition to hosting the site, my provider takes care of my e-mail, and I receive visitor statisics four times a day.
Can anyone recommend a company that will take over the service and provide me with something similar for about the same price? Thanks.
Since Web Hosts wrote that he had used my site and hoped it wouldn't go offline, I thought he was referring to my maintaining the site. Yes, I know things happen that can affect the site being available.

I am a math educator planning and designing my first website (for math teachers and students and students' parents).
I have a D.I.V.E. cd, and I absolutely LOVE the format of it. The screen is achalkboard. Chalk moves to the lesson with the instructor's voice in the background.
I want to be able to create lessons for my website using this technology or something very, very, very similar (smile).
Any suggestions on where I need to start? I emailed tech support on the website. No response as of yet, and an error message received in addition to their automated response. I'm wonderiing if anyone has other suggestions or can recommend software to match my needs.
Hi - I use a programme by Macromedia called Captivate. I teach IT in an English secondary school and we have found these shows to be a most useful teaching resource. They are simple and relatively easy to build. I have a selection of them on my site. Some American schools aready use this site for the school friendly games section, however there are a selection of captivate shows and a couple of complete modules of work that I have created for my own students. Feel free to view them/ use them as you see fit. Just go to
[link removed]
and then click on the 'Free tutorials' link on the left hand side menu bar. Some of the cpativate shows are big - so be prepared to wait a little while. Also due to recent legal wranglings, IE7 does not open swf files in the same way that other browsers do, so you will see and IE7 alternative link for each one of the captivate shows where it is needed.
I will be posting lots of word documents and pdf files and short movies (eventually) on my website.
I am new to website development. I am using Web Easy Pro 6 to create my website. (By the way, if you suggest another software package that is better for teachers' purposes, your advice would GREATLY be apprciated!)
I visited one teacher's site and she had a table to share her documents. There were Word document icons and Powerpoint icons and PDF icons in one column, the file name in another, and I think a brief descrption in the next column. There was also a "search by file type" drop box above the table.
That's PERFECT! I love it! So, is there a website that has a tutorial for how I can create this? Or, is there any other source you recommend (book, CD, etc.)?
I asked the teacher, and she said it was set up by her school and not her doing (smile).
It's all done using PHP script (most likely). Usually it involves a MySQL database, but it could be done using without MySQL ... just by using a simple text-file database.
Find out if your webhost allows PHP scripting.
If it does, it would be a matter of putting all of the MS Word docs in one directory, PDF in another, and Videos in another. Then, a PHP script would be created that uses a simple database to create the webpage (on-the-fly). This is called "dynamic pages" as opposed to static web pages.
The main thing to note ... you can't develop this on your computer and run it on your computer. It must be run online, on your webhost ... so you need to have a way to upload and test as you go.
I could do the PHP scripting for you for a reasonable fee. Email me from this website: [link removed].

Do you know of a site I can go to check our website that I have created at school? On my computer and others everything looks just right as I've made it on my computer. I use Dreamweaver. Today, when it was beamed up on a projector it was messed up. The browser that was being used was IE 6.0. It looks fine on the display on the monitor connected to the computer but was messed up when beamed up on the projector on a screen. Thanks for any help you can give me.

I suspect the trouble may have something to do with the resolution of the projector. If the projector was set to a low res setting (i.e. 800x600 or lower) you'd get the breaking up of the links. I checked it in several browsers (Safari, Firefox, Sunrise, Konqueror, IE, etc.) on Mac, Windows, linux and PC-BSD and IE on Windows was by far the worst for messing things up at a lower resolution.

Our principal announced to our faculty during Post- Planning that we all must produce our own personal website by the beginning of the next school year. I am a total novice with web design, but have years of experience in print design. She did not specify a certain program to use. We are to have it designed and our technology teacher will publish the sites on the school system's server.
Suggestions on software would be appreciated. I would prefer a user-friendly program, but I don't want it to be cookie-cutter either. I don't mind reading hundreds of tutorials in order to make the site look savy.
Yes, I am using this for the first time this year and love it. There is plenty of space and it looks impressive--like I know what I'm doing! On 8/03/07, Beth wrote: > Teacherweb.com is a great start for new webdesigners. It > only cost $27 for a year.

I used the earlier version of this program to teach Web classes in the high school here for several years and was quite successful with it.
It has the ability to run in simple mode that has most common commands as icons readily available in the program.
As you grow, turn it to next level and it adds new features
at the most extreme, it has as much power as any of the commercial programs.
