I am working with a group of teachers who are creating their first website. Any suggestions for Free graphic, clipart and backgrounds sites? I prefer sites that are geared toward elementary teachers. Thanks for any help!

One thing that I would like to caution about someone just starting out with a website (especially for education), is to refrain from using any animation. Specifically, animated graphics and scrolling text are not ADA compliant as they cannot be 'read' by screen readers.
Good luck to all the new 'webmasters' out there and have fun!

I am new to making web pages. I have learned enough html to do most of what I need to do.I am putting together a web page which I am going to post a survey on. So if people respond to my survey form, how will I receive and see their reponses? Thanks, Nanette

Taking over the school web page. It is run on Front Page, which is the program I am most familiar with. I have been looking into free calendar options, but wonder if I should just buy one. What do you suggest?

If you don't know the IP, maybe running trace rout through the command prompt will lead you to the IP.
If none of this helps, post the URL to the site and I'll see if I can find it for you.

I'm thinking about building a website, I have had webstites through School World and another website, but found them limiting. What web host would work best for an elementary teacher who wants to use it for communications: displaying pictures, blogging and giving information? Any suggestions????

There are some good free sites that are easy to use and designed for teachers. I'd suggest Edublogs, which uses Wordpress, a very popular blogging format.
There are also two wiki hosts for educators that give you some more flexibility. Wetpaint Wikis in Education and Wikispaces for Teachers let you set up a class account to restrict access and to give you the option to allow your kids to collaborate on your site.
I've used them all and they are all good. Look on the hosts to see examples of other teachers' websites to get a feel for what each can do. All of these hosts, and several others, are described with links, on my site below.

For about fifty bucks a year you could get more server space than you would ever need. Plus some great tools, stats, WordPress, SQL, and more stuff that you may not need now, but may want to play with in the future.
GoDaddy, iPower, etc. are good. Do a search of "best web site host" and you will be empowered.
I have created a document in MS Word with several links to post on our school website. I tried using my Mac to convert the document into a PDF but when I do, the links no longer work. Does anyone know if there is a way to preserve links when doing a conversion to a PDF?

I'd go with OpenOffice which is available for FREE at openoffice.org it's similar to Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, etc.) reads those files too and saves them too in those formats for availability to be opened by any MS Suite application but what OpenOffice does which I like is the ability to export to pdf (which such ease) then you can upload that document/those documents directly onto your school's webserver or to your website's host server or into any text of an article of any web page for access by whomever.
Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

I'll check the other items as well. Thank you so much!

Or if you have access to Adobe Acrobat -- turn it into a pdf and then add it as a link. Elizabeth
