Does anyone know of a free discussion board tool that I can put on my website? I'm looking for something that can be restricted (password protected) and that does not have any inappropriate ads.
I have never heard of it, but their website did mention that you have to have "proper permissions" to create web content. Could that be an issue for you?
Could you use some other tool, since you're not familiar with using First Class in this way?
I am using Dreamweaver for our building site and also for my class site. We use Microsoft Outlook for our mail. My principal would like to create a distribution list to mail info to parents. He mentioned that he wanted something that would allow the parents to sign up and have their email address automatically added to the distribution. I told him I had no idea how to do that and suggested that each address could be added manually. Does anyone know if it can be set up the way he wants it or should we just go with a manual system?

I don't know of a "free" way to do it, but there are several software programs that automatically add names to contacts. Your school could set up an "addme" email address where parents send an "opt-in" email. The program would be set-up to take any emails from the "addme" email address (example: [email removed].
Below is one example I found (software you can purchase).
Thanks Max. The program loos like it will do just what the principal wants. I will pass the info on to him. It is a good price, so I am sure he will go for it.

Sorry, I'm borrowing your post to post on. The links are not pointed in the right direction. I'm going to be moving to MS/HS next year and teaching a class of Dreamweaver. Do any of ya'll teach webpages? If you use Dreamweaver where have you found books to help teach it?
Hi folks - I apologize for the error here, I was not aware when I upgraded the system that this forum had an error. Hopefully this is the last page that didn't update correctly.
Awwwwwwwwww Bob. I missed your phone call. I was letting the pups back in. Thank you for fixing the board. Like I said, if you need help I'll be glad to. :o)
I think part of the problem is the forum software itself.
Teachers.net should load a better style of software to run the forum. Something that works like codingforums.com (They use: vBulletin Version 3.5.0)
This forum is horrible, you can't edit your entries, can't follow threads very well ... very out-dated.
I think teachers.net could benefit from a forum that has the "web authoring" forum with 'sub-forums' within that ... 'general','javascripting','html','css','PHP','Perl' ...
And finally, a moderator assigned who can screen-out spammers and keep the momentum going.
I think I fixed it. Thanks for you suggestions. Except.. weird thing, a teacher was clicking the links at school and they were not the right links. That is, the faculty button took her to learning links. Doesn't happen here at home.
That sounds like a browser caching problem. Delete all of your temporary internet files (clear cache), either at home or at school ... whichever one is not working properly. This sort of thing happens when you make webpage changes and upload it several times with several changes, people end up caching the change that was not correct.

I have a website that I've worked on for years. Messed around with it the other day and accidentally deleted the page titles from the shared border on the top of the page. Now every page has the same heading. Well, actually, now it's blank because now it's blank because I deleted it.
Does anyone know how to code it so that the page title shows up on each page the way it used to?

I have a friend who has a 9 year old girl who wants to make a webpage of her pets and so forth. Are there any free websites out there suitable for a child.
