Hi - can anyone help me with how to teach five year olds how to touch the board and move things? They are digging their nails in, pushing so hard it squeaks, and in general just not getting it. I have tried the terms "gentle," "softly," "quickly" and we practice on our own hands, my hands, and the board and still nothing moves. Thanks Patty

This is the other part you will need looks like it's getting Expensive.. Google Wireless USB Extender (NOT Wireles Adapter) those are mostly to connectyour Laptup up wireless to get online. these seems to run $200 - $400. A long USB cable is Only $20 - $30

Great free tool that has students add two sets of coins, then subtracts. Answer and pen tool is a nice added extra in case you just want to use it on a desktop instead of the whiteboard. Other activities available for free: [link removed]
I am an art teacher and I had a Promethean Board at my old school I have moved to a classroom which does not have any technology at all!
I am looking to write a technology grant and came across something called a mimeo board. Does anyone know what this does? Is it similar to Promethean and Smartboard technology?
I have a SMART board but others in my school have Mimeos. If a SMART or Promethean are not an option, Mimeo is a cheaper alternative to use while you are without the other.
OH - mimeo has their own interactive software, but it is sadly lacking when compared to SMART notebook.
I'd like to know how to create shortcuts with the original icons. For example, I want to create a folder with links for my Kindergartners. I know how to create the link, but I want to add the actual icon to the link and can't seem to do it. I'm using a Mac. Thanks !
Your description of your SmartBoard makes me wonder again whether I should be looking for a LCD projector or a SmartBoard for my classroom *WHEN*/*IF* I can find a grant or something. My school district is having extreme money problems this year. I posed the question a couple of years ago when some of the math teachers at my school started using SmartBoards. They look really cool and I love the interactive part of them. I can totally see how great they would be for equations in Math and in Science classes. But some people argued that LCD projectors were better for the FL classroom (Bill Heller and some others).
Here are the pros and cons I can think of at the moment:
LCD: Big screen, can show movies, PowerPoint presentations; NOT interactive, can't write notes on the screen and maybe save them for future reference, bulbs are expensive to replace
SmartBoard: Screen may be smaller for viewing, LCD might(?) be able to show more programs, don't know what the replacement supplies cost; great for danging and interactive stuff; can save writing on the board (and I think I could do presentations that go step by step on the screen so students can see the process).
What would your advice be (or anyone's advice)? (I fully admit that I'm envious of your SmartBoard and what you are able to do with it.)
I dream of creating interview PowerPoints to teach vocabulary in authentic contexts with lots of visual and oral stimuli. I would be able to incorporate videoclips as well as microphone clips into the presentations to create vocabulary development activities instead of using the textbook materials so heavily. (And I don't have to keep using my voice to present the vocabulary 5 times per day.)
(Now the problem is trying to find money to get a LCD projector or a SmartBoard....)
Thanks for sharing,

I believe a smartboard requires an LCD projector. I love having one and can't imagine teaching without. I also have a tablet PC and a document camera and clickers. Lucky me! My problem is I'm the only one in the district with this much stuff and I have to learn EVERYTHING myself.
Tuesday evening we had a teacher who presented session one of the Level I SmartBoard trainings. This teacher has actually gone through the SmartTech training (from the SmartBoard company).
We have two more of the Level I sessions. In the spring, or next fall we will be able to take the Level II sessions.
Have you checked with other schools around to see if there are SmartBoard training workshops you could attend?
Also, you do know about Smarttech.com, right?

I have seen some ideas with the SmartBoard but without having one to play around with I am having trouble answering the following question. (question on the grant)
List examples of how you would use the SMARTBoard in your teaching as an interactive tool (not as a screen). They are looking for ideas that cannot be replicated with an overhead, chalkboard or projector/screen.
I teach 3rd grade. I would love to have the SMARTBoard and would ejoy learning to use it if I get the chance. Thanks for your help in advance!

When I show a website and go to click on something to move and object I find it very difficult to pick up the object and usually have to even "double click" with my mimio pen.
When I click on the mimio tools they don't seem to change easily. I am constantly going back to the tool bar to try it again.
Also, when I click on a specific tool, it will highlight like i have it, but then when I go to use it, I have the wrong tool.
You can also view more of our training options with the link included.
The issues you are describing below could be a calibration issue, as the more precise you are hitting the points, the better the orientation of the stylus (pen) to the device will be.
I would be more than happy to answer any and all questions you have regarding mimio. Please feel free to contact us at [email removed].
Thanks, Blake

I went into iTunes, created a song clip, saved it on my desktop as an .mp3, and inserted it into my Notebook software. It worked at home but when I took it off my flashdrive at work and put it on my PC, it wasn't there.
What is the best way to create short audio clips and insert them into Notebook software?
