Has anyone used an online journal with their class? I am wanting some type of journal that the student can type responses to my questions. I would also like to view the online journal fairly easy.
Would a blog be best or is there something out there that is better?

I got a Mimeo system (a type of interactive whiteboard) this spring with a grant along with an LCD projector. It has completely replaced my overhead projector and I'll never have to check out a TV/DVD from the library again. But I KNOW it can do more than this.

JenniferI am going to be going through training inAugust so I can have one at my school. I found some cool things on TeacherTube.com. Teachers are actually demonstrating their techniques.
I got my smartboard and old laptop in Feb. Used it through end of April. Laptop started failing. I have miss placed the software to set up my smartboard. Any ideas what to do? I have another computer ready but software not loaded. P-third grade teacher
You can download Notebook from the Smart website, but you will need an activation code to make it active and not a free trial. I got that from my computer tech also.

As I used the SMARTboard more and more, the ideas started to enter my mind as I was planning. It snowballs...a little at first, then more and more.
In the beginning, give yourself extra time to account for things not going how you planned. Also, don't treat it like a powerpoint presentation. It is much more that that.
For example, I made a model of the manipulatives Algeblocks using the software that comes with the board (Notebook software). Each page had a different problem. The kids had to set the problem up at their desks using the Algeblocks. Then a random number generator (in the notebook gallery) would choose a student to come up to the board and move the pieces into correct places. When the kids got a correct answer I would tap on the smiley face and a "rockin" song would come on. The whole class would sing the song. It was great!
Over the summer I'm getting a Promethean board in my room...I'm super excited about it too! I have used a Smartboard in the past and I know that it is similar to this but so much better than that also. I was looking around on their website and have registered for Promethean Planet and where you can also take some classes on how to use their programs. I was wondering if someone would be able to tell me which software package would I more than likely get with my board to use. I haven't been up to my school in several weeks....I know that the board is up on my wall and looks like it just has to be plugged in to my computer but other than that I'm not sure what software will go with it. The two that were mentioned on the website were ActivStudio and Activprimary....do you know which one I would more likely end up with? I guessed and tried to take one of the classes but it says that the software must be on your computer and it's definitely not on my one at home....so if you know which one I might be getting I would appreciate anyones help. Also if you could give me any tips for using my new board or either of these software programs I would love that info. as well. Thanks! :)
Oh, and if you have taken one of these classes online do you think it's worth doing or not and do I have to have the full software loaded on the computer I'm doing it on?

You do not have to wait for your school to load the software before loading it at home. Grab those disks and get them installed so you can play! :-) If you haven't been to Prometheanplanet.com yet, make sure you check it out. All of us ACTIVaddicts hang out there. haha

I am getting one installed within the next few weeks and have been looking around a lot for ideas and lessons. I was wondering if you can use the Smartbaord as a regular white board using dry erase markers with the smartbaord turned off and then save that information on the white board? Just playing around with ideas. Lill
