I've had my SmartBoard for a few weeks now. I had training only two weeks ago so I am not familiar with all the things I can do yet. Tonight, I used some of the templates available and didn't know how to type in accent marks. How do I do this?

I figured it out. If anyone else is interested, here's how to do it:
1. Create a textbox using the text tool. The text edit toolbox should appear.
2. Click on the little arrow between the ? and the X.
3. In the dropdown menu which appears, choose "other".
4. Scroll along to your desired letter and select.
Hope this helps anyone else who is wanting to use accent marks.
I'm the author of NetPen, a free interactive whiteboard tool. I just made some changes requested specifically for teachers (i.e., voting, testing, and grading) in the UK and thought it might also be of some use for you.
Version 0.95 is the first release specifically for teachers and because of the extensive additions should be considered a beta. So, it’s perhaps not quite ready for the class room, but a great time to get any feedback to me on how to make it more effective for teachers.
You can download the software from [link removed].
You don’t have to download & install it to see how it works; there are 3 short tutorial videos on the two pages listed above.

Paul
P.S. NetPen’s been around for a while (it’s just the new features specifically for teachers that’s new). You can see some independent reviews (and even download the old version) from:
Could anyone explain to me how to do this? I tried to figure it out based on hwo the lessons I dowloaded were designed but there were no clues there for me!

Does anyone know how to customize the preset text fonts in Notebook 10? The old version had a "Customize text" option when you right click. I have checked Help and smart tech on-line to no avail.
We installed the Notebook software on several computers in our lab so that we can have training workshops.
Everything installed fine.
However, when students log in (and even many times on my login) and attempt to print something, the notebook software automatically captures the item and puts it into the notebook software rather than print it.
I've gone through everything and can't find the solution.
Tha...See MoreI went in a checked. The lab printer is still the default printer. But while I was in there, I decided to try just deleting the Notebook Printer from the folder. That seems to have done the trick.
We'll see this week as I try having students print various things from their computers to see if the Notebook program captures it.
Thanks for you help!!!

(Such as your previous default printer.) 3. Log out, log back in as a local administrator on the computer and save that new local user's profile as the Default Profile.
Or you can use network Group Policy to specify which printer is your default.
Hope this helps.

I am as kindegarten teacher and I just got my laptop for the smartboard. My smartboard will be here in the next week. How do I make lesson plans in the notebook? I wanted to get started.
There are hundreds and hundreds of ready-made lessons/activities. This could, in turn, give you ideas of ways to use the smartboard for lessons.
Our first grade teacher has her morning activities all on her smartboard. The kids come in and answer the question of the day (which is actually a survey) by moving their name into the proper column. Example: What is your favorite color? She has the name of each student in movable fashion so that students can use the pointer to move the name under the appropriate color.
She has her calendar activities on the smartboard, as well as the weather, etc.
Anything you do in class can actually be set up in the smart software.

Once you have it, click on the icon and you are good to go! Be sure to download the Teacher Toolkit and there are lots of templates to get you started. Also, going to the Smartboard website and teachers are sending their ideas to be shared as well as ones written by Smartboard company people.
Google Smartboard Lesson Activities for your specified grade level will also give you loads of ideas and there are some short videos that you can watch to help you troubleshoot if you are a visual learner (like me!) for specific things. You can just add video to your google search of what you want to know.
have fun, I'm still learning how to make lesson plans on it! RR

Would love to hear how K teachers are using SB in their classroom? do you create your own activities using the Notebook? If so, which ones are the easiest to use for K? I use it with internet online games, but would like to customize it more for our classroom learning. HELP!

I looked at the files last night. She has used her smartboard for:
lunch count -- have a screen up with a T-chart for lunch and brought. Students go to the screen to move their names from the bottom into the proper part of the chart. Teacher can check attendance/lunch count at a glance, and the kids LOVE it so they don't forget.
Countdown timers -- power point that visibly counts down time by the second
powerpoint templates for "20 question" games and other games

I finally got a 42" flat screen that will free up all sorts of space in my classroom.
Now I'm told my portable has Metal instead of wood, and they won't be able to install it. I'm hoping some of you have some great ideas that I can pass on so we CAN mount the TV!
Our problem with mounting them or even putting them in the portables is that A) They are often broken into once word is out that something good is in there (fridge, food items) and B) or system can come remove it and take it to a more needy school at any time of the year, any year it deems necessary.
In the end, we went with the portable version of smartboard w. Smartstands for this reason. It takes a lot of space, but less headaches for us.
Good luck!
