The problem I'm having is that, when I scroll down the fonts get all messed up.
Is there a way to pull up and write on PDFs without this happening?

Yes, but you will need to print the PDF to the SMART software to turn it into a Notebook file. Just open the PDF, use the Print command, and when the print dialog box appears select "SMART Notebook Print Capture" as the printer.
