I teach in a building that is almost 100 years old. It is in beautiful condition, gleaming hardwood floors, etc. However, we only have two electrical outlets per classroom with 2 sockets each, and obviously the wiring is very old. If I were able to get a Smartboard through a grant for my room, would I even be able to use it? Would the electrical situation need to be updated? The outlets are not even located near the current wall of regular whiteboard. I already have two computers running in my class on one wall using a powerstrip, and on the other side of the room is my desk area with my computer and a small fridge plugged in. If I want to plug anything in, it means using an extension cord from the area behind my desk, and unplugging my own computer. Is having a smartboard possible for me, or just a dream?

certifiedteach Thanks, I had to laugh a bit; we have one elderly custodian who just mops the halls and cleans the toilets once in a while - other than that, teachers clean their rooms and we would have to call in an electrician. We have no building engineers, etc! I would really like to get a smartboard somehow. Oh! there is one unused electrical outlet about 2 f...See More

DRR I am not sure I understand Raymond's response. The Smartboard I have does not need to be plugged into the wall. It needs to be connected to a computer. It gets it's power from the computer.

Yes You Can! I agree. the SMART board is connected to your computer, and your computer to a projector that projects the image onto your screen. So using a powerstrip with a long cord/extention cord, you can plug everything in. My SMARTboard and projector/computer setup has 2-3 cords that stretch quite a ways through my room. So I went to Staples and got those t...See More

Muuvv You Should be able to connect the Smartboard to any one of the Existing PCs. For that you need a VGA Y-Splitter cable. around $10 - $20 Bucks. You Will also need a long USB cable to go to the SmartBoard and Long VGA Extender cable to Go to the Projector (cost depends on Length $15 for 25"). Most Smartboards get their power from the USB Cable (look ...See More
