I teach kindergarten at Edgewood Learning Community in Anderson, IN. We are getting ready to celebrate our 100 days next week. Hope you get your 100 responses. Mrs. Sylvia Reed
Our 100th day celebration is in five days. We started collecting postcards in January. We have only received 5 postcards from around the world. We will still collect them after our celebration. Please send us a postcard from your part of the world, telling about your class, school, etc . We will be glad to send you one in return.

I am interestind in organizing a 100 Day Leaf Exchange for the 2001-2002 school year.
I would like to recieve/send 100 laminated leaves with tags to/from my classroom this year to celebrate 100th day. The ideal would be to have 2 leaves from each state by the 100th day of school.
If you are interested in participating please e-mail me at [email removed].

How will you be laminating these leaves? With a regular laminating machine such as we use to laminate bulleting board items? or Contact paper? Sounds like a great idea to exchange leaves--tie in science. Please post answers soon. Thanks.

I have been doing 100 day with my first graders for the last couple of years. Last year each day we opened a window on Scholastic's 100 day calendar (like a giant advent calendar) and did the activity. We talked about even/odd tens and ones for "the number of the day" & etc. On 100 day and week we do special activities, have a party, kids bring their artistic creation made from 100 items.
At 6 yrs. old, especially, does this really contribute to their number sense? IS THIS ACADEMICALLY MEATY ENOUGH TO BE WORTH STUDENTS' TIME OR JUST A ROUTINE? I'm kind of getting tired of it. Maybe some other math activites for calendar time would be better, something that changes a bit more from day to day. On the other hand, I have seen mastery through repetition of concepts. What do you think?
I'm certainly no expert, but I did see a project that I thought was cute at another school I was visiting. Each student made a poster of 10 groups of 10 things each. Together this added up to 100 and I'm guessing they had the poster due on the 100th day. Each poster was unique. Some kids glued on toys, odds and ends from around the house like crayons and paper clips, or food items. Some kids used stickers and some drew their pictures. It seemed like a fun project and since it was "hands on" perhaps they got the idea of what "100" means.
Our K5 teachers have 10 students provide snack bags with 10 items in them for the 100th day. Each student gets a total of 100 snacks. That seems like a fun way to illustrate 100, too.
Just a few ideas, Lynnette Stevens Elem Comp teacher
We are going strong, but still looking for members to join our100 Day Postcard Exchange. We need 100 people willing to sign up as soon as possible and agree to exchange 1 postcard with each group member. The cards can be mailed out anytime between the beginning of school to very early January. Because school starts at different times throughout the country the 100th day will be different for all of us (explanation of why early Jan. is the ending date). To cover the costs, you could ask your students to donate 4 to 6 cards each with postage stamps included. There are many ways in which to use these postcards. If you signup I will send you some ideas along with the list of members. An example would be to hang a large USA map on your bulletin board and add stars and a label for each school when each card arrives. The idea is to count up the cards to the 100th day of school and have a 100 postcards to show off. All grades are welcome to join. I happen to be a kindergarten teacher in New York State, but I've noticed many older grades are interested also. Think of all the learning going on!
If you would like to be a member please e-mail me back with your full name, grade, and school address. If you know of others that are interested please let me know. I'm looking forward to hearing from you all!
