I¢d like to inform you about a research project on the relationship between the strengths of character and subjective well being of secondary school teachers that is being undertaken as part of my MSc degree in Occupational Psychology; within the Institute of Work, Health & Organisations (I-WHO), which is a postgraduate institute of applied psychology at the university of Nottingham. I¢d appreciate if you could pass the following information to your colleagues. For the next two months, there will be an on-line survey, in which secondary school teachers need to complete: a) the VIA Strengths survey and b) two brief questionnaires regarding their subjective well-being and job characteristics. This will take approximately 35 minutes. The aim of this research is to explore the occupational pattern of character strengths and the degree to which they can predict life satisfaction. In order to do so, the personal patterns of character strengths are explored; as well as their relationships with a variety of job characteristics. In order to participate in this survey they only have to visit the following web site addresses: a) [link removed]
b) [link removed]
DIRECTIONS FOR PARTICIPANTS
a) For the first (via character website) you should register using the research code of MAR002 and select the VIA Signature Strengths Survey, as the on-line administration of the character strengths scale is being done through the VIA Strengths Institute. Participants' responses will be aggregated for me only. This will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. There are no wrong or correct answers. All responses are confidential and confidential and will only be seen by the researcher conducting this study.
REMEMBER TO USE THE MAR002 RESEARCH CODE FOR THIS PART OF THE SURVEY AS IN ANY OTHER CASE YOUR RESPONSES WILL NOT BE ABLE TO BE CALCULATED FOR THE PRESENT RESEARCH!! IN ORDER TO DO SO ENTER THE CODE: MAR002 IN THE TAB THAT SAYS “IF YOU ARE PROVIDED WITH A RESEARCH CODE PLEASE ENTER IT HERE” YOU WILL FIND IT IN YOUR PROFILE IN THE VIACHARACTER.COM WEB LINK
b) For the second part of the survey you will be redirected to a web-survey designed and run by me, where there are short questionnaires, regarding teachers' subjective well-being, job characteristics and demographic information. This will take approximately 5 minutes. Other than that, all questionnaires ask about participants¢ own experiences. Participation and completion are entirely voluntary.
If you agree to participate or for any additional information about the research you can contact me directly at the e-mail addresses: [email removed]
I am a 5th grade teacher and would like to include center/stations in my classroom. I was reading the archives and noticed that there were several people posting before the last school year who indicated that they were planning to use centers. Did you follow through with the centers? Did you like them? Do you have any favorites?

I went to learning stations last year as a way to help my predominately special ed. ELA class which I taught after lunch. I teach 6th grade, which is a level that most center books does not cover. Because I taught English and reading, I broke my stations down like this: Spelling/Vocabulary, Silent independent reading, writing/journaling, small group instruction, and independent/make-up work. I used a timer and rotated the groups every 20 minutes. This allowed me to differentiate as well as focus on weak areas in each station. I started by "walking" the students through each center. Each group returned to the previous days "last stop". I made sure that each group remained together no more than a week at a time. For the group moving into independent work at the beginning of class, I made that particular group finish uncompleted work or pre-test assess for the next unit of study. Using stations this way was a little more work on me, but the students commented repeatedly that they enjoyed it. I am planning on using the stations again this year, but I may only use it for 2-3 weeks out of the six weeks so that students do not become bored. I won't really know until I assess their learning styles at the beginning of the year. If you need any more help you can e-mail me at: [email removed]

Help! I am in the same boat and would love some assistance on fifth grade centers for math and science. If anyone has any insight, please email me. I'm desperate for some new ideas! Thanks!
Katy, Contact Melanie Stowe with Henry County Public Schools in Martinsville, VA. She developed a math kit for 5th graders. She may be willing to share this with you. Best of luck! Been there and done that! Cynthia

I need help from anyone who has used centers in a foreign language classroom, particularly Spanish. I will be using centers for 4th,5th,and 6th graders learning beginning Spanish. What kinds of centers have you used? What kinds of activities in each center? Any other helpful info? Thanks.
I am a new high school teacher and I am expected to come up with a syllabus and daily lesson calendar for 2 semesters. I will be teaching English 1 (Grade 9). we use the A & B block system.
I will be grateful for any ideas or templates that I can modify. I simply have no idea how this works. Thank you.
I put the assignments in sheet protectors and gave them to each group. They worked together to complete the assignments, except on the computers, where we used FCAT Explorer which is individualized. Since we are in Florida, that was the program of choice.
It is JUST like you did it in middle school, only on a higher level, and I might add that some of the students you have are going to remind you a lot of middle schoolers anyway--just a little bigger!
Hi, I'm teaching in a More At Four Pre-K program. We have 18 students and 10 learning centers. Is there anyone teaching in MAF class? I would like to know some more ideas about this. Thanks. Olive
