I am a new teacher in an urban district. I taught 9th grade Bio last year in a very traditional, suburban setting. I am looking for ideas to implement learning centers that are biology based. Thanks in advance for the help!
I teach 2nd grade, and we are getting ready to begin Math centers at my school. Some of the things I am going to put in my centers are hundreds charts where they fill in the missing numbers with dry erase markers, calendar skills activites. Also I am including patternables blocks with different shape pictures to make with the blocks. Flash cards are good if you have two students per station. A good site to check out for some handy resources is busyteacherscafe.com I got lots of things that you can print, laminate and add to a folder for math centers. Another good source is the math centers books by Evan Moore. There are about 13-14 math centers per book all you do is laminate, cut and put in a folder or other container and they are ready to go. My kids love these and they are different levels to purchase for remediation or enrichment. Hope this helps.
Just wondering how do you go about setting up learning centres in your classroom. I am based in Ireland and am really intersted in this. I would be teaching the equivalent of kindergarten. Any advice would be appreciated.

I am just wondering if anyone is sick of teaching using the idea of centers/workstations? Does anyone else feel like this is a ridiculous manadate if we have a class of 30 kids, most not performing at grade level, and many students with behavior problems? My administation seems to think that there is no place for whole group instruction and that centers should start daily and within the 1st 2 weeks of school. Is this crazy or is this just me?
I would love peoples' opinions on centers and to know does this practice occur everywhere?
