Hope everyone's having a happy new year! I got an email from a site I ordered from before that gave me a pretty awesome deal so I thought I'd share it here. If you use this code (NY2010) you can order a New Start Package and get $10 off. I already have the book so maybe someone else can use the code. Have a great new year!
Becky, you sound like an angel(or a real literacy coach). I love my job and centers too! I've got my reading centers going, but the math centers are just okay. Your centers sound great. Please, please send me what you've got too. THANKS!!! [email removed]

Smart Centers are a very effective way to raise AYP, but the company behind them ILS (I have heard that they filed for bankruptcy and now have some other name STARRS, I think) comes into your school and promises many things (support, materials, etc. and they never deliver. I am quite ashamed of this since I am the teacher that recommended them to my district. I found them because a friend of mine in another district had just gone through a training and make and take with April (I think she is the owner) and was very excited about the possibilities. I called my friend when things started to go downhill with Smart Centers. I wanted to see if at the very least my friend knew how to get in touch with them or get them to return a phone call. She echoed the same experience that my district was having. In short, if you can get around the headache of dealing with the creators, and all the teachers are committed to using Smart Centers, they are wonderful.
I hope this helps...

I don't knit, but what aobut making a bag the right size without handles, then knittingon the part that goes over the chair back? I sewed some, and it was quit simple. Or you could knit a strip the width of the chairback, 3 times the length of the back, and then sew them in the form you need (sort of like a 'z'), so the bag slips over the back of the chair and is open for books. I think some yarn would stretch too much, so be careful what you use :O)
Can anyone help??!?? I am in need of sweater storage bags with zippers to help allow my students to have their own bag of books. I am hoping this will allow my students to read books that are at their level rather then books that the pictures are interesting. Any AFFORDABLE ideas?
