Our Global Launch will take place in May 2010. Its aim is to provide Peace Education resources to every school in the world. This is a unique opportunity for every student and teacher to join us on our educative journey to promote peace on earth!
The resource incorporates learning materials from a number of media, supplementary worksheets and innovative teaching methods and discussion topics, to provide a more invigorating and exciting learning experience for students. Used in conjunction with documentaries produced by Jeremy Gilley, founder of Peace One Day, the resource has been carefully designed to engage young people in the imminent issues that can affect their everyday lives, and to educate and inform them how they personally can make a difference.
Hello, I would like to use the "Retell Story Cards". I would like to know has anyone use them? I would like the kids to use them in a group or in a center to help them comprehend the story. Does anyone have any ideas to share. Any help will be so greatly appreciated. Also looking for center ideas to go along with SF stories.
I have used the Retelling cards that go along with the weekly Reading Street stories by putting them into a center for students to sequence along with the 10 important sentences. I usually use this in a center the week after we have read the story in reading groups
You can provide your students with some stories at intermediate difficulty and ask them to read a certain amount of pages each week. Then, ask them to write a brief description about the characters and events that occur in the stories to make sure that they read the stories at their hands. Through their descriptions, you can test their level of competency and their progress. If you see that they master the level of difficulty of the stories that you provide, you can move to the next step by providing little difficult types of stories. Make sure that not all the students has the same level of competencies in the reading skills so you will provide different levels of difficulties to your students and allow each one of them to choose the story that meets his or her level of competency and interest
MeghanThanks for this! I just printed out a heap of center activities from here for my 2/3 class and also got the 2nd grade math journal prompts. Going back for more!

I taught 2nd grade last year and this year will be a self contained 5th grade reading teacher. I would love any ideas you may have for reading centers. Thanks very much.
