I am starting a ecology unit with my students (7th grade) that will last until the end of the year. I would really like to read them a book that has to do with ecology. I really like Barabara Kingsolver's Prodigal Summer, but some of the passages are too mature for 7th graders. Any suggestions? thanks

The Dynamic Great Lakes is a book with an environmental message. It is suitable for school in the classroom and in library collections. The Dynamic Great Lakes website may also be used in schools.

Trickle Creek Books is a small publisher of books that "teach kids to care for the Earth." Our book, I Heard the Willow Weep, by Toni Albert, M.Ed., is perfect for Earth Day. It's a child's primer on the state of the environment. "Part One: What Have We Done?" introduces young readers to some of today's most pressing environmental problems. "Part Two: What Can We Do?" presents projects and activities that children can do to help restore health and beauty to our Earth.
From Toni Albert: I loved writing this book and I'm grateful to Margaret Brandt for her powerful, unforgettable illustrations. I Heard the Willow Weep was published in the year 2000 and we called it "our small contribution to the world's thought in the new millennium." Since then, I've had the joy of hearing from many teachers and students who have valued it as part of their environmental education.
============================================================ ========= Beside environmental pollution in many developing nations, problems related to lawlessness prevail over High Court or Supreme Court decisions. Public or mob often takes the law in own hands, especially in remote villages, and kills the miscreant in barbaric ways (e.g. by using bamboo sticks or burning/burying alive, by slashing the face or throat with sharp or blunt knives, etc.). From the viewpoint of developed nations, such episode reminds me about a jungle out there, like an animal kingdom (with hopping kangaroos, or leaping cheetahs), where co-existence or tolerance is rarely seen, and killing is the only way for survival or revenge. “Kangaroo Court” in “H-Ray Vision” is an attempt to refer to such system where barbaric deliberations of civil justice take place without any remorse. ============================================================ ========= Memories of the formative years Often take me back- To the villages of my native land, Where affluence seems to lack! On a recent exploration of civil justice And environmental pollution- I decided to visit developing nations To discover a few solution!
Acclimatization to my adopted land Over the past thirty years- Has found a new me to roll back My eyes with joy and tears! Solution of pollution is firmly rooted In my thoughts to share- With the world now in disarray, But I seem to care! Invention and innovation flock my mind For the benefits of humanity- And they’ve made me a welder of peace To unleash the vanity! Civil justice in the developing And developed nations still wildly varies- While loathing veils bribery, To define social standing someone carries! Punishments of crimes are deliberated Via High Court or Supreme Court Orders- And terms are set by the judges, Depending on moods on their mental borders!
Extramarital affairs in the developed nations Are truly not an eye sore- Regardless of the court rulings, Society allows them more and more! But moral decency in developing nations Hangs high, and aren’t stretched thin by law- So the justice is served quickly To the culprit without any flaw! Police and law enforcement may or may not Even get the chance- To appear on the scene or settle a dispute, With their song and dance! Defending mob takes the law in own hands To deliver to the offender until death- And brags about the justice served By the “Kangaroo Court” while placing a wreath!!

Hi there, I've been asked to organize a spring concert. I've never done one before and need some advice. Are there any good sites out there where I could get ideas? I'm looking for something that has very few lines and some singing and dancing that parents will like. Thanks
The Greenheart Project is currently running an international poster, postcard and flash web design contest for young people and students around the world with the theme of "Green Power". [link removed].
We hope to be displaying some of the entries at the Earthday events over in Tokyo, Japan.
We are looking for ways to reach out to young people interested in promoting peace, protecting the environment and fighting the scourge of poverty and introduce them to the contest. We believe that giving young people a forum to express their vision for a better, more peaceful and sustainable future is extremely important. We would greatly appreciate any help or suggestions on how to do this. (as the deadline for entries is March 31, 2006)
I have a high school environmental group and we are also looking for a play based on The Lorax. We would like to present it to second and third graders in our district around Earth Day 2006. Please, respond if you know where to obtain the play. Thanks!

Did you ever find The Lorax as a play? I am looking to produce this, and potentially write it myself, but if there is one that already exists I would like to take a look.
Does anyone know where I can get a copy of this play? I did it with my kids a few years back and now I can't find it! It had Ebenezer Litterbug as the main character. Thank you, Debra
