Again, Earth Day will roll around on April 22. Prepare for it by thinking globally and actin locally.
We are looking to promote cartridge collection in conjunction with Earth day. Disposable cartridges are a serious environmental threat. With an estimated usage of over 2,000,000 cartridges every year. This adds up to over 3,000 tons of garbage. These cartridges are non bio degradeable. Please start a "Collection Drive". Ask your students to collect empty inkjet cartridges from their home printers or ask thier parents for empty toners from thier office. We will then make a donation to the Charity of your choice in your name depending on the amount of empties you collect ! Call me at 800-273-4274 if you need collection boxes or additional materials.
Mother of the Universe (In Loving Memory of Mother Teresa) August 26, 1910 – September 5, 1997 By Hillol Ray
In the skies of Yugoslavia, a Star was born in the year Nineteen Ten - Who had shunned the world with “beaming luster” really since then ! Darkness in the horizon was speechless and quietly spellbound, By the brightness of a single Star that no where could be found ! Later, the brightness became brighter, when the star landed on the earth - And declared her presence in the middle of throng by virtue of her birth !
Lust for the material world suddenly became so calm, And crawled under the shadow of a strong tiny palm ! The voice of welcome was echoed through the loud ringing bell, To focus the ‘only message’ that history is now so proud to tell !
Brightness of this single ‘Star’ was watched closely by the God - And he changed her to a ‘Saint’ quickly with a very simple nod ! Thus Agnes Bojaxhiu was born as ‘Mother Teresa’ of the universe - And became so synonymous in every house without any rehearse ! Through the years and throughout the world, she had to fly - To preach: joy of giving is always a pleasure and will multiply ! Today, our Mother is resting in the heaven, but the legacy lives on- And reminds her passions for hungry and poor, from dusk until dawn.
Hello, Mother, please accept our deepest love and respect, Your absence is truly unbelievable and really heartfelt. We have kept in our hearts a "Special Spot" just for you, 'Cause your lessons are immortal and draw the global view. You achieved your "Spot" through sacrifice and enormous tolls - And they are still vivid, around the world, in everyone's souls ! Via untiring patience, you have served the poorest of the poor - Who found solace in your touch before heading towards the heaven’s door. Your innocent smiles have stirred up the hearts of all, And the world will remember you always without your call !
Your soft unspoken tender love and the glittering eye - Shine at the whole universe, and never say good-bye ! Your courage was awesome, in the tales it can be found - And tears still pour in, globally, to make us spellbound ! You never gave up your efforts and had unlimited patience, 'Cause Lord gave you His strength to exert your persistence ! You won the Nobel Prize but spent the money for a worthy cause, So the world bows down to respect your deed without any pause !
From us, today, you are wandering freely very far away - But offering us lessons while keeping your mind at bay ! Your strength and struggle for poor are deeply felt everywhere - Around the globe, in oceans, in soils, and in open atmosphere ! Be assured that your memories will be with us at all the time, And direct us in the darkness and even when the winds chime !
Today, we float our broken minds immersed in dew moistened tear - To display our deep affections for you, Mother, without any fear. We will carry on your untiring efforts with blind folded eye, Without any set back or hesitation and uncompromised vie. Mother, our hearts are now crying alone in daylight and darkness, But vividly remember your tender love with the natural harness ! Now, the whole world has neatly placed your name in concrete stone, And we are so blessed with each and every touch of your intriguing bone !
So, before conclusion, we love to say this, Although it's too late but very true, as it is - You served the “poorest of the poor” around the world for 70 years, And removed their agonies via “magic touch” and wiping their tears! Today, your love and sacrifice stunningly span around the earth, Although the Yugoslavia was the sacred place of your holy birth ! Mother, you were a “Citizen of the World” and will be missed by all, But your simple motto, love and peace, will stand pretty tall ! You are the “Mother of the Universe” and our eternal guiding light - To lead us all in the direction of God, without loosing the sight ! You will shine forever like a viable "Rising Sun" in the far East, So bright, so generous, so gentle, and so polite to say the least ! The aspects of your glorious life are too simple and straight, And they’ll remind us old reminiscence even after the "sunset" !!
Milestone Garland, Texas, U.S.A. September 5, 1997 ------------------------------------------------------------
“At the end of our lives, we will not be judged by how many diplomas we have received, how much money we have made or how many great things we have done. We will be judged by ‘I was hungry and you gave me to eat. I was naked and you clothed me. I was homeless and you took me in’. This is Christ in disguise.” - Mother Teresa of Calcutta -
Environmental issues can no longer be regarded As a luxury or afterthought- Rather, they should be a central part of policy-making That had already been fought! Economic and social developments need to be integrated To give ailing planet a chance- While positive vision of long-term growth, equity, And justice may be allowed to dance!
Despite the achievements, our ailing planet Is still in need of intensive care- And my visionary mind offers alone The latest readings on her health to share! Population growth, poverty, and pollution Threaten the quests for sustainable Earth- Followed by rapid urbanization and demands for water, While we lose Nature’s mirth!
Rural poverty, consumption habits, land and energy Continue to play a significant role- And are placing intense pressures on The ailing planet’s ability to withstand the toll! In an era of interdependence, the sense of Mutual responsibilities needs to prevail- About the health of the planet; otherwise, the quest For sustainability will definitely fail!
Environmental footprints left by past societies Are too much larger than the societies now- So I suggest to pursue a sound path to modernization Through the technical know-how! Economic growth, social progress, protection Of our environment and natural resources- Should be real and tangible issues for a sustainable planet And used as her defense forces!
To accelerate international cooperation, The globalization should work not just for a few- Rather, I urge to review the daily impact On our planet and its peoples with an open view! Development appears to be divorced from its human And cultural context over the years- But there’s a need now to search for our past, And learn from our ancestors, without fears!
Aspects of globalization must focus on human, Cultural and spiritual dimensions of all- Irrespective of our diversity, and the interdependence Of mankind should stand pretty tall! Now, the time has come to nurture a holistic worldview And connect with the Nature- While values drawn from indigenous beliefs And all world religion must show caricature!
Eradication of poverty will lead to better development, And there’s no doubt in my mind- While the treaties and agreements need to be pursued To put the authorities in a bind! A pristine environment is vital to human survival As well as to the flora and fauna of sea- And I will nod my head till I breathe to protect Our planet, as it matters, with a safety key!
For the 21st century, our ailing planet is in dire needs Of ecological diversity for sure- To provide life and sustenance, as well as spiritual identity, Drenched in water to be pure! Well, by preserving the planet, our ability to bequeath A greener future will silently ring- And I will wait for the moment to which humanity Can aspire certainly with joy and sing!
The Marvel of Ingenuity (In Memory of Rubbles of World Trade Centers in New York) By Hillol Ray Garland, Texas, U.S.A. E-mail: [email removed]]
The marvel of ingenuity disappeared Within the twinkling of an eye- From the skyline of New York on 911, And the world listened to the solemn good-bye! No doubt, rubbles are telling the horrifying tales Of cruel death of fellow mankind- While the memories of the crumbling towers Do now boggle my mind!
Moistures from gentle breeze cooled these towers Against the morning sun- But the strikes of calamity appeared on the scene And dismayed the laughter and fun! Waves from the New York traffic were greeting the millions To earn their daily bread- While in a hurry, the towers collapsed And rubbles with ashes buried the human thread!
The hapless thousands vanished from the Earth, Along with the structures of modern time- While the memories keep on haunting, And equate human lives with nickel and dime! Horror from the scene still affects the emotion of survivors Followed by fear- And the agonizing tales of human sufferings Now drench my weary eyes to tear!
The hue and cry from the demised businesses Reverberate the modern global air- While jobless men and women are facing the brunt That we must take care! Let us offer our helping hands to re-build The lives of such unprecedented call- And wipe away the tears in a rush To make these towers stand pretty tall!
Every drop of rain in the ocean helps To regain water via the evaporation loss- And keeps the world moving Where God is our Almighty, the Boss! In God We Trust is our motto, and unto Him, Let’s keep our faith with love- And pray for the blessings, to overcome this tragedy, From His home above!!
I am a high school student collecting empty inkjet cartridges for recycling. Recycling empty inkjet cartridges keeps plastics out of America's landfills and gives money back to the community. I have already started collecting from a few schools and would love your help. I pay one dollar ($1.00) for each of the following inkjet cartridges:
I allow a $0.50 shipping allowance for each empty inkjet cartridge, for the shipment of the cartridges (in addition to the $1.00 per cartridge). Payment for the cartridges can be handled anyway you desire. I usually send a check in the full amount to the School (at your location) after receiving the cartridges. I have found that the most cost effective way to ship is usually USPS Ground. When shipping cartridges make sure that there are only plastics used for covering the cartridges. Paper products cause the cartridges to leak from the print head. Please remember to never replace any tape back on the print head after use, as this causes cross-contamination of colors.
If you would like any additional information or would like to participate in my Inkjet Recycling Program, please e- mail me at [email removed].
Women Empowerment: Today’s Vision for Tomorrow’s Mission By Hillol Ray Garland, Texas, U.S.A. Web Site: [link removed]
In a globalizing world, gender equality And empowerments of women are vital tools- To achieve sustainable developments of societies, And are even admitted by the fools! Still, the violence towards women is an epidemic Against which no country is immune- And today, we face the greater challenges Of human rights and a non-melodious tune!
Development strategies will fail, unless women Become the central players of the game- And must be included in all policies of peacemaking And reconstruction without a shame! Women suffer disproportionately from impacts Of armed conflict around the world today- While rape, forced pregnancies, sexual slavery And varied assaults have kept them at bay!
In the arena of politics, the poor are excluded From governance, regardless of the gender- And women are victims of other people’s decisions ’Cause they are assumed to be tender! So the entire spectrum of women’s roles To combat poverty, hunger, and disease- Need to be re-examined under the new Millennium lights before the roles decease!
Impacts of modern conflicts now affect The global women and girls without a doubt- But they’re neither initiators nor prosecutors Of conflicts, or matching game of shout! Determined efforts must be taken to end The impunity surrounding this lamentable claw- And the perpetrators must be brought to justice, And told that they are not above the law!
As a messenger of peace, I walk alone In my memory lanes to watch the moonlit nights- While my voice quivers in agony for the women Of developing nations and their plights! Basic standards of dignity, equality, And humanity have been trampled over- To oppress the women’s rights, where The civilized minds must now hover!
Men need education on the rights of women And keep them free from violence or abuse- And must recognize their roles in every walk of life, Without losing their “mental fuse”! Remember, violence against women is not a “Women’s issue” alone but it affects us all- While the grounds for tolerance of such impunity Or lamentable act must cease and fall!
I am assured, no peace strategy is likely to be Durable in absence of the women’s role- And the men must hear the perspectives Of the women towards the reconciliation soul! We should capitalize on the beneficial impetus That women and girls can bring- In conflict resolution and peace building, Without the attachment of any string!
Studies show that globalization may contribute To make the women’s rights better known- But the negative impact and publicity are awesome And on reports they are neatly shown! Criminal networks continue to traffic women As sexual exploitation and cheap labor- Around the world today, via modern technologies And are reaping the money’s flavor!
Democracy, in my mind, will be democracy Only if it is the true representation of all- And women of the community need to be allowed To voice their opinions, large or small! The tunnel visions about the women’s roles And abilities have to change- If we want to build a better future, And this is my call from a close range!
To reduce gender inequality, women have immersed In politics more than ever before- And are making headways to prove “sink or swim” Till they reach the political shore! Yet, statistics reveal that politics continues To be a bastion of male domination still today- Even in countries where women, active in male areas Like business, are disallowed to say!
Women of developed nations have engaged Conscience and consciousness of world now- To serve as engines of progress for women Of developing nations with an indelible vow! Still a change of mentalities and attitudes Towards women is a crying need of the hour- By eliminating rape and violence, while honoring Their basic rights and protective power!
Let’s focus today’s vision towards a society Built by strength of its women, young or old- And honor their role in peace and security Instead of as commodity that needs to be sold! Let us undertake arduous searches to clear Any obstacle to promote the women’s rights- And erect bridges rather than walls, to achieve Tomorrow’s mission, on aesthetic sights!
Friends, the fight has just begun for the Women’s right and gender equality as well- To promote energy and effervescence Throughout the world where thoughts will swell! Today I offer my unstinting support In a non-violent way to create the culture of peace- And encourage the men to harness the powers Of women that we can’t afford to miss!!!!
Shackles of Poverty: In Retrospect By Hillol Ray Garland, Texas, U.S.A. Web Site: [link removed]
Sustainable development is not only a necessity, But also an opportunity for all of us- To place our global societies and economies On a durable footing, without any fuss! Millions on Earth are facing the gnawing pain Of hunger and reaching the heaven’s door- Followed by the diseases, caused by malnutrition, And the numbers are escalating more!
Since ancient dawn, poverty and hunger Are Siamese twins, and they walk hand in hand- To maintain devastating cycle of dehumanizing Conditions from mountain to desert sand! So the civil society now needs to show That they are ready with partnerships for a change- Rather than staying aloof via the politics Of confrontation and accusation at a close range!
The sad impact of 911 renders people More vulnerable to deeper poverty than before- And will continue to reverberate around the world, While we recoup from our heart sore! World economy is expected to slow down And more people will live in poverty next year- Due to falling prices, politics, lower investments, And the loss of tourisms brings the fear!
At the moment, large parts of the world’s population Are off the global market for sure- And are badly crippled by hunger, disease, Isolation, ignorance, and as such they endure! Their existence is thwarted by violence Or degradation of environment in which they live- But such conditions are curable through Surplus foods, and if donors are willing to give!
With information technology, the isolation Of remote communities can be broken down- Via investments, from phones to Internet And allowing them to talk with people in town! Global perspectives of today should break through The barriers of indifference tomorrow- And eliminate the narrow interest, with an urge For policy to diminish the hapless sorrow!
Poverty is an affront to our common humanity And kills hope for a better society for all- So in our web-bound interdependent world today, This is a concern, big as well as small! However, the undercurrents cynicisms Are still visible about the goals set are rarely met- While negative impacts of globalization Are surfacing up with dissenting views and hate!
Polarization of our societies along ethnicity, Race or class has to be a thing of the past- If we intend to tackle the social problems globally, To win poverty and violence at last! The rich countries have an indispensable role To play by offering the development aid- To eradicate the squalors of poverty And suppress their hungers before they go to bed!
Undoubtedly, poverty is the greatest single challenge Confronting humanity on the Earth- But through decisive actions by all of us, We can reduce visible flame of hunger’s hearth! No challenge is more pressing and diverse, No goal is more urgent, that we may feel- Than freeing humanity from the shackles Of poverty that may always send the chill!
Population is growing, and poverty is gaining ground In places, with exceptions of a few- Followed by unemployment, social exclusions And those are so apparent for global view! Inequalities are quietly spreading both within And between countries at an alarming rate- While recession and restructuring tend to widen The gap, and the finance controls the fate!
To free humanity from the shackles of Poverty today, I am nothing but a single voice- But I speak out of my own convictions To make it heard globally, without a choice! Political wills must make human well being As an essential parameter to reach the goal- ’Cause poverty and marginalization threaten To undermine the peace and create the toll!
Through perseverance, tenacity, and selflessness, We can surely make the shift- In the lives of those people, stricken by poverty, And assist them to rise up or lift! We can’t wait for perfect governance, Or engage in endless accusations to pass on blame- Rather, the challenge is at hand now, and we need To form an alliance to douse the flame!
Well, actions speak louder than words And war needs to be waged against poverty now- Via the marriage of talent, technology, With a true commitment, and it will show us how! We may face a barrage of resistance or cynicism, But still the motivation we must share- And allow fight against poverty on all fronts To nip the germination of seeds of despair!!
