I wonder if anyone who frequents this board has done anyting like this:
In the spring (April) I want to have an "Earth Day Festival" for our 7th grade, where all the 7th gradrs are broken up into small groups and rotate between teachrs (and volunteers) for Earth Day related topics. Anyone know of a source I can tap into that can provide activities for this?
Bill- This sounds like a great idea. I searched the web a little last year and found some sites, but I ran out of time and energy. :-( Hopefully, I told myself last year I'd make sure we did something. If I find something good, I'll post it.
Go to Earthday.net it looks cool. Some of the activities are typical (although still worthwhile) = plant a tree (if you join the arbor society, they'll send you 10 free trees. I did this last year and they're still alive!) In NC, the national forest service or the ag. extension service will provide cheap/free trees.
Clean something up -
Compare the cost of styrofoam trays to washing plastic trays in the cafeteria.
Earth Day is traditionally celebrated in the United States on April 22. However, the first Earth Day was observed on March 21, 1970. Visit "The Real Earth Day" for more information, and see the Earth Day Network to learn more about the April date. The URL address is [link removed].
I need ideas for my Elementry kids. First on the list Spring plays, anyone out there try anything you like? Second Question. Poetry for kindergarten- to fifth grade. Any web sites which shares examples, I try to keep it challenging for all ages listed. I would appreciate your imput. Thanks Janet.
We are putting on a community Earth Day Festival targeted at children. I need suggestions for good earth day literature that we could possibly turn into a play or storytelling experience. Any suggestions are welcome and appreciated!
My absolute favorite Earth Day Literature is Dr. Seuss' THE LORAX. I found it yesterday at Barnes & Noble, and I remember it well from my childhood. It was always my favorite - I read it to my 6-year-old and she had no problem understanding the ideas it was trying to get across.
I'm actually planning on teaching this to my 11th grade English class for Earth Day (and my birthday, which is the day before Earth Day!!). I'm going to turn it into a small project.. I just haven't quite figured out how...
Any ideas?

I'm hoping that there are schools out here in California which accept teachers without CBEST yet, like me.But I'm willing to take the test once I'm hired. For now,I need a stable job that could help me out to go back to graduate school to take some classes just to refresh my mind and be ready for the CBEST.Maybe you might think ,like review on how to take the exam, but I need now is real class, especially in Mathematics.Got it?
The educational organization in Yukon, Field Trips, Etc., is offering a new field trip this season. Opening April 1st is the world's only Eco-Maze. Kids get to hunt for 10 learning stations throughout the visually unique maze while participating in fun ecology challenges. They'll also participate in an animal farm scavenger hunt and do a waste reduction lunch activity. The overall lesson learned in the Eco-Maze is the importance of recycling and being friendly to our environment. See the Field Trips, Etc. website for more information.
i got this out of the dictionary in the websters one for students I read mostly about the wars cause pretty soon we will have wars so I got them ready for it . to tell them what might happen during the war and not to be scared about it .Then I read about the Boston Massacre and the Boston tea party!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hello all, I have come here seeking help on ideas for what a small Earth Club (10 members) can do for Earth Day. We would like to invlove our whole school in this project and possibly the community. We would also love to hear of any ideas that we could do other parts of the year as well. Currently we are working on a fundraiser for our local animal shleter. Thanks!
Kali, I head up the Earth day activities at our school and I am always looking for new ideas as well. Here are a few suggestions that work well for our community.
--Earth bags: I collect hundreds of paper bags from our area grocery stores and students (3-6 grades) decorate them with earth day slogans. We sign everyone of them the same...At Jones Elementary School, We Care!
--Kite day. On the Friday after Earth day we have a kite day. Students bring their kites from home and we celebrate Spring by flying them in the field by our playground.
--Can recylcle: about a month before earth day we announce our alluminum can drive. The class that brings the most cans

Why don't you try a Recycled Toy Sale"? It's a great way to involve the whole school. One student's junk is anothers treasure!!! Ask everyone in the school to bring in books, puzzles, videos etc. that they have grown out of ( with parents permission of course). Sell items for a minimal cost, then purchase a tree to plant! Your club can help with sorting, making signs and being the cashiers. This works well for our small Green Kids club). jww
I was wondering if anyone had any great ideas for an ecology project with a time constraint of one month. Also taking into fact that is winter, the project would need to be completed in side. The age group would be an advanced 8th grade Earth/Life science class. Thanks so much for your help!
