Many of the student tour companies are clamoring for teachers to travel with them by offering large 'stipends', rewards, finders fees/referral bonuses, and other travel perks beyond a free trip. I've heard as much as $400 per student for European trips and $325 per student for Washington, DC/east coast trips. then there are the wine and dine 'workshop' weekends, teacher conventions, and 'fam' trips.

I was under the impression that these incentives are patently illegal and negate fiduciary trust, especially if one is a public school teacher. Additionally, I've recently been told by a friend, who teaches at a prestigious private school, that the NAIS (National Association of Independent Schools) has also come out against these practices.

Alfred $375 per student?!? Where in the world do you get that sort of figure? The average group size (and again, I've been doing this 10 years) is approximately 20 +/-. That's enough to cover two-three teachers, and the remaining stipend is approximately $300-$400 TOTAL, not per student. That's not greedy. I know no one who could count that sort of money ...See More

Concerned in Texas erhaps Alfred you should move here. I'm dealing with this as a parent for the second time. Three years ago with my daughter we had to turn her down and she was devastated as her friends who's parents had the means spent more than $1400 to send their children to Philadelphia.

A year later, we spent not much more to take the entire family o...See More
