What are discount cards? That's an easy question to answer. The size of a credit card, these valuable little cards offer discounts and savings at merchants in your own local area. Most offer savings at 12 to 15 merchants on the back of the cards; the front is usually printed using your group's logo, name and the expiration date of the card. The consistency of discount cards is like that of a credit card, glossy and durable unlike a cheap, thin paper card. The discounts and savings offered on the cards are good for an entire years, so the user enjoys savings that add up to far more than the $10 spent for the card.
An example of some of the merchants you will usually find on discount cards include Meineke Car Care Center, Waffle House, Sonic, Shoney's, Tire Pros, Jiffy Lube and merchants that are unique to your local area. When customers save $10 off on auto maintenance services, 20% off on family entertainment (movie rentals, bowling, etc.) and 10% off at restaurants, it's easy to see how the savings add up to a substantial amount of money over the course of a year.
Why are discount cards essential to your fundraising efforts? They offer incredible profit margins, unlike most common fundraising items sold today. Their affordable cost and the value they offer the customer make them a smart purchase, particularly in times of a down economy like we are experiencing today. When a customer is offered a $12 container of cookie dough versus a $10 discount card that will save them a bundle on things they would spend money on regardless, it's easy to see which one they will choose.
When your group is tired of all of the bakes sales, car washes, church yard sales, catalog sales and candy bars, discount cards just make good sense. There is practically no planning or work involved prior to receiving the cards, and the company you order from takes care of the grunt work by contacting the merchants in your area to secure their participation. They print up the cards for you, even use the colors you prefer and design a logo for you if your group does not already have one. This is truly the way to go when you want to raise money quickly without going to a lot of work and effort.
Most individuals can easily sell 10 discount cards, so you can see how profitable this can be if you have a large group of people participating. Those who live in large, heavily populated cities will likely see that they can sell far more than 10 cards. The great thing about discount cards is that you can literally take them along and offer them when it is convenient whether you are at work, school, a family get-together, party or even out shopping the mall. Now you know what discount cards are, how they work and how easy they are to sell. What are you waiting for?
Whether your group is an elementary school class or the teenagers at church, a discount cards fundraiser is easier for all involved. There are no products to store, like is the case with candy bars, cookie dough, jerky and the like. Additionally, you don't have to lug around heavy boxes and packages, which is particularly difficult for small children. Adults enjoy a discount cards fundraiser because there is virtually no work involved, unlike what you usually find with bake sales, car washes and multi-family yard sales.
Customers are more likely to buy
Another reason a discount cards fundraiser is ideal for groups and organizations in need of money is that customers are far more likely to purchase something that will ultimately help them save money. Sure, everybody loves a good candy bar on occasion, but when the economy is in a state such as we have seen in recent years, people want to save money more than they want to spend $2 for a candy bar. For $10, the customer can purchase a card which allows them to save money on goods and services in their own local area for a one year time period.
Enjoy greater profits
Most church and school organizations find that a discount cards fundraiser is much more profitable than car washes, cookie dough, popcorn and other common fundraiser methods. Not only can you sell the cards quickly, the profit margins are higher than with many other products used to raise money. The more cards you order from the company providing the cards, the greater your profit margins. For example, if you order up to 499 cards, you enjoy 50% profit; order 1,000 or more, and your profit margin soars to 100%!
You may think that selling 1,000 cards sounds like an impossible task, but when you consider that most individuals are easily capable of selling 10 cards or more, it's fairly easily accomplished. Have 100 students in the 4th grade class? With a discount cards fundraiser, you can earn $10,000 in a short amount of time; how long would it take to raise this much money with candy bars?
Merchants benefit as well
With a discount cards fundraiser, the company you purchase the cards from secures the participation of local merchants in your own area. This means that your local economy will flourish, as merchants bring in new customers and increased business with existing customers.
All the way around, these cards are an exceptional choice; the customer benefits by saving money over a one-year time period, the merchant benefits by growing his/her business through new and increased business, and your group or organization enjoys higher profits with less preparation and work. How could you lose?
If you haven't tried a discount cards fundraiser, next time your group needs money give it a try - you will quickly understand why this is the fundraising method of choice for so many schools, churches and other organizations around the world!
Discount cards are absolutely outdated! The worst part is that you have to find people to actually buy the cards. What if instead, you had them download a free app. Check-In For Good has filled a huge void in the fundraising business.
Once downloaded, the user chooses their Cause in the system, then looks up the businesses that are supporting that Cause (via GPS). Then, like Foursquare, the user checks in at one of these businesses when they shop there and the business makes a "micro-donation" (such as $1.00)back to that Cause, and provides a deal.
There are no out-of-pocket or upfront costs to the Cause, and Businesses only donate AFTER your Cause has driven them business.
Check it out by downloading it on Apple or Android.
Best,
Pat
