Well you should apply for grants as soon as possible. You have to remember that grant programs operate on their own timetable and not yours.
Are you talking about starting an actual daycare center outside your home or are you talking about starting one in your home? Is your daycare going to operate as a non-profit, for-profit or a combination of both? How much in start-up money are you looking for and (more importantly) what is this money going to go towards?
What arae is this daycare going to be located in? There are some states and more local areas that have grant programs for daycare startups because the need for daycare is so great.
What kind of daycare-related experience do you have?
Are you a minority? There are some grant programs that were started for minorities specifically......
There are just too many questions that need answering before you can decide which types of grant programs that you can investigate to see which ones that you are eligible for.
Although there have been times in the past where I have said that there are no grant programs for just wanting to start any kind of business I have now come to find out that I was wrong. There are some grant programs specifically geared towards those that want to start a business. In most of them you have to at least submit a business plan to show that you are serious about what it is that you want to do.
I've read many of your postings and you seem to be very knowledgeable in this sticky area of daycare grants. I am a 22 year old newly graduated (BA Psych) hispanic female wishing to start my own daycare. I live in CT and would like to open one in Waterbury (high pop, low income city) or Wolcott/Cheshire/Naugatuck neighboring small towns. I want this to be a for-profit business and would like for it to be open from 6 am - 11pm or 12am. Do you have any specific information about what grants might be out there for me? Thanks a ton!!
PS I currently help run my mothers home daycare. Are there any grants for home daycares (already existing and start-ups)?

The reason that I'm very knowledgeable about daycare-related grants is because that's what I have been working on more recently for clients. I take the time and the effort that is necessary to find these kinds of grant programs. You have to do the work to find these grant programs. The fact that you are a minority opens up more grant programs that you could apply for but the fact remains that you have to look for these grant programs. They are definitely out there! Just do the work.
As far as already established for-profit daycares are concerned I posted to both my daycare page and my grants blog about a daycare franchise that applies for grants everytime they open a new daycare and they get those grants because they used the same procedure that they did when they applied for the daycare grants with their previous daycare openings. So there are grants out there for the already established daycare because one of the franchises is taking advantage of it.
Look into your schools EETT grants and also the 21st CCLC grant program. The Literacy Through Library Grant can also help. There are others also.

I would like to know titles of current literature that I should be able to find at the public library to assist in writing a grant for a food service industry venture. Currently done out of the home but has expanded.

Well basic books/literature concerning writing a grant will give you general information at best. They may even provide copies/examples of forms/proposals that have been submitted to grant programs. However it would be more important to first find out what grant programs that your business is eligible to apply for. Once you know which grant programs you can apply to you will know what you have to submit as part of their application process - what I'm trying to say is that each grant program has their own different eligibility requirements and it better to know their individual requirements as opposed to getting literature that gives you general knowledge instead of the specific knowledge that you will need to apply for specific grant programs.
But if you still want to go this route you can start looking for the publications that are grant-related.
I teach tenth grade English at a middle-class suburban school in Delaware. Next year will be my second year. I would REALLY like to apply for a few grants to offset the costs of extra materials that I get to supplement what my school provides.
I've tried (and done) a lot of research online, but I feel like most grants are for the severely underprivileged or extremely creative.
Can anyone please help me to really get the ball rolling? I don't just need information about grants; I need to be pointed to actual grants for which I can apply.
I am still not sure what you do as a teacher. Do you just walk in to your local Wal Mart or Target and ask for the manager...go to customer service.....and say........?
I would like some personal CD players for a literacy project with books on CD. My school also is middle class but without a lot of money for classroom teachers.
Thanks for any additional advice.

When you go into the store ask for the manager and then ask for a grant application.

I am emailing you to see whether you know of anyone who would be able to help me host some workshops for parents. My area of expertise is Verbal Behaviour and the intervention for children teenagers and adults across all learner learners.
I am relocating from the UK to Australia this December, but am hoping to travel to visit associations and parents in other countries throughout the month of November. The workshops that I would be keen to offer would depend on need in the area but would be: an introductory workshop; a basic behaviour modification workshop; workshops for each of the early, intermediate, and advanced learner levels. I would hope to keep the workshop numbers very small to create a maximum networking and learning environment for parents and professionals.
I am hoping that it may spur some more interest in an increased number of areas and help to set up some more practical parent networks, where it seems as though professionals and governments may either be withholding information from parents or not as up to date with interventions as some other areas in the world.
If you, or others that you know, are interested in discussing this further, please email [email removed].
For those interested in finding out a little more about the services that I currently offer and will be offering, please email [email removed]
I once had a home daycare and now I'm trying to get a grant to open a 24 hour daycare in a building. I would love for someone to direct me in the right place in how to start looking for grants to accomplish this goal. I've ran a home daycare for three years straight and ready to adventure out.

Well the question that begs to be asked is how much grant money are you looking for? Another question - this daycre "building" - are you looking to rent/lease/buy/build it?
In order to start looking in the right direction to start looking for grants - in your case daycare-related grants - you're first going to have to decide what kind of daycare you are going to operate. Is it going to be a non-profit or a for-profit. The answer to that question will help to determine which grants you can apply for.
I am a 6th grade inclusion teacher in a middle school in one of New York City school. I will be grateful I can receive a grant for a SMART BOARD for my class. Using a SMART BOARD will enhance my teaching of Social Studies and Language Arts becuase my class is made up of students with different levels of learning. I do believe and I do practice multiple intelligence. I want to make a difference. Please help!

They are not taking applications for their program right now because the participants for next year were chosen in April for the 2007-2008 school year. But think about applying this coming year for the following school year. Keep checking back onto the site. I am not sure when I first received word on it this past year. It might have been in January. It appears to be a wonderful program. The person to write to in order to find out more about when the next application process takes place is [email removed]!
