Kate... I had a rabbit for a number of years. It really turned out to be a therapy thing for some students... had one student when she started to go off the deap end would take rabbit on tour of lower gardes (she was 4th ) helped a lot. BIG thing is the cage needs to be kept clean..you have to keep an eye on it...rabbit went home on the weekends. Like any pet kids have to learn how to treat it. Jo S
I have a male beta, seems as though he can't bring his head down below the water line. He splashes around, swims no problem, then when he stops his head is poking outta the water, and his body is straight up and down. Have had him about 8 months in a 30 gal tank with mollies and platties...
Sounds like a swim bladder issue, which they often get because of constipation. I would treat for that-- by feeding baby food peas from a toothpick (cut down or stop regular food if he goes for the peas), if he doesn't like the peas, I would reduce feeding. I'd hate for you to remove him from the tank to do an epsom salt treatment (this would bring on some stresses and cause other problems). Let me know how it goes! aimee

Seems as though no matter how hard he tries he can't get his head under thr water. His lips are ALWAYS poking outta the water.

I have had my male batte Blue for 6 months and he has developed cotton like balls on the end of his long fins. I have tried betta fix and mela fix and he is not getting better. Today he started just layiong at the top of his tank on his side. What can i do for him ... i haven'y got alot of money to keep trying more meds i out some sea salt in his tank as per an article i read and he seems to be feeling a little better but i am at a loss as to what else i can do. i just hate seeing him suffer. He is in a small beta tank with a light to keep him warm. Will a filter help?
Definately no pro here dear, but definately sounds like FUNGUS. Not ICK, so you'll have to get something to treat fungus/fin rot.

I had a very healthy & livley Betta until I left for two days out of town, and left a house sitter. I believe she over fed him the dried blood worms 2x a day and also turned the Air Conditionin down, and the house was cold when I returned that Sunday. My betta has not eaten since! Going on the 3rd week now! He is very moppie (sp) and depressed, but still has energy because of when I change his water he comes ALIVE big time! I offer him food of all kinds, (tried a cooked pea) but he just looks at it and goes on. I think he is constipated, what do you think? Please help! I think I am running out of time. Rae
In the past I have ordered butterflies and ladybugs, but I can't remember when. When would be the ideal time to order the butterflies and ladybugs? It takes about 3 weeks to come, but can i order them now?

Last year when I ordered Painted Lady butterflies, the company let me know when they were able to send them, i.e. spring. They sent me a voucher to mail two or three weeks before I actually wanted the larvae delivered.
What kind of butterflies are you getting? Do you release them at the end?
I have asked you about my male betta D.J. before. He once had a bacteria that you had me treat with Maracyn and he never eats much. He also had a gold spot that I thought might be Velvet. You said it was ok. But today I noticed that the spot looks bigger than normal, like maybe it is swollen. Should I be concered? Thanks!
Ok I can do that, I have a little maracyn 2 left over. I always use aquarium salt when changing to new water. The sore is not open. I will leave out the salt next water change :)

I have 2 male betas in a 5 gal tank searated by a plastic grid. They show no agression towards each other. Last night I came home to find that my blue beta found a way to to get past the grid. My red and blue beta ripped up the fins and tail of the blue. The blue beta is still swimming and eating, though not as well as he did before his adventure. Is there any hope of regrowth for the blue beta's fin and tail.
Wow-- well at least that's all that happened! Yes-- the fins do regrow! You'll notice a clearish color to the new area of growth over time. I'd add some aquarium salt-- 1/2 teaspoon per gallon to help it heal. I use it always as a water softener/bacterial preventative. Although they're freshwater fish- the small dose of 1/2 teaspoon per gallon is OK for them.

Aimee please read my posting of April 3rd, subject "my Betta hasn't eaten in 2 weeks!
I have been reading other mailings, and I have been changing the water with a turkey baster so as not to stress him more than he is already! I have added 1/8 of a teaspoon of epson salt to one gallon of prepared water, and I have been giving him the baby food peas with a tooth pick! I have also prepared a 10 gallon tank with live plants, gravel and cylce for the culture! I am letting the water season wtih a bio wheel filter! He is still in a small 2 qt. bowl and I am trying to get him to eat before putting him in the tank! He has had good energy, but today he is laying on the bottom! Please help! Iam afraid is will die soon if he doesn't eat! PLEASE respond to me and I can tell you more! Thank you.
I feed him 3 live black worms (Yike) and he went after them with avengness! It was great to see the old Curley again!! !
His eyes are little bit bulging, and because I didn't hear from you, a guy at the aquarium store gave me a sm. amount of Tetracycline enough to make up a 5 gal. Pale of it! So I made 5 gals up, and after he ate his 3 worms I changed his water with the Tetracycline water (w/no Epson or sea salt). The guy told me to change out 50% of his water everyday for 5 to 7 days. Then I am hoping the 10 tank will be ready, but I will wait until it is okay first. I am getting the water tested at the aquarium store. It is good that Curley is eating, because I am not as worried now! I didn't feed him a worm today, but tried one- bio gold, but he wouldn't eat it, so no-worm! I am not sure about the worms being a good thing, but I feel he needs to eat something, so if it is a few live worms then so be it! He was so happy and swam around his bowl like I haven't seen in 3 weeks! His color even returned!
But yes, his eyes are perturded some what, not flat against his head like other bettas I saw at the store! Also, you know I am not so sure that his eyes weren't like that when we got him 5 months ago!
Aimee, tell me what you think about the pre-mixing of 5 gals of the Tetracycline and if it will loose its potency, and if that is what should be used with his eye problem! I diffenalty think he can see okay!

Yes, the tetracycline will deactivate-- so it will only be effective for the one dose. You can buy tetracycline tablets at Petco and Petsmart and most other aquarium stores and reduce the size of the powder/pill to make it work for the 2 gallon bowl.
That's so great he is swimming and eating! I have never used live food-- but-- whatever works! It may just be normal about his eyes-- you'd notice some severe swelling if they were bulging. So, just don't use the salt as a precaution that he may be swollen and watch for increased swelling.
Let me know if you have other ??S good luck! aimee
