I am a student teacher and would like to do a powerpoint jeopardy lesson. I have seen this done before, but have no clue to how they set it up. Has anyone ever set one up before and if so how? thank you.

Just search "powerpoint jeopardy" on google and download a template. Then you will be able to make your own Jeopardy games using that template and won't have to spend any money. Also depending on what subject you teach, you can download already made Jeopardy games. Have your students create the games as a test-review assignment. Leave me an email if you have any questions.

Does anyone have a good way to teach fifth graders how to write an outline in the traditional way? My kids seem to struggle with what is main topic and what is a sub-topic. Using the numbers and letters are also confusing for them.

Here's something I'm trying with ninth-graders who were absolutely befuddled when I introduced the idea of outlining: I've made a sample outline, based on a book they have recently read, leaving various letters, numbers, words blank. These are at the top of the page. Students have to fill in the blanks using the letters, etc., at the top. I hope they will both see the outline form and understand the relationships between topic, subtopic, detail.
I would love to talk with other teachers that are using the Harcourt series especially those that are also a Read First School. We feel the series has been very beneficial for students with many options for differentiated instruction. Some issues that seem to arrise frequently are the following (if you have any tips let me know!):
Kindergarten: Too much time in a sitting position- not enough movement. Best ways to utilize decodable books?
1st Grade: Building Words- this activity seems to become repetitive and boring for some students.
2nd Grade: Students who are unable to read the anthology fluently, yet, need to take the test at the end of the unit.
3rd Grade: The anthology is too long and difficult for students to read repeatedly without guided assistance.
Hello, I need help with the Praxis I Reading Part. I need a 170 in my state of Mississippi. I have several books and nothing has help. If anyone can help, please do. I need to pass before January 2006. I'm having problems with the Critical and Infer. Part.
Hello, I am a new teacher to 3rd Grade and I am looking for a good idea for a field trip for my language arts class. Does anyone have any ideas? I also live in Clarksville, TN, if there is anyone out there that may know of any ideas in this area that would also be helpful. Thank You!!!
Hello! I was wondering if any of you who use writer's workshop would mind sharing a little bit about how you do it and how well you think it works. I have a fifty minute period to teach writing, grammar, and spelling, and I am looking for better ways to teach. Any ideas?? Thanks!
I'm a master's student at San Francisco State University, in creative writing. I have started a website to publish poems written by children about their experience with, and feelings about, Hurricane Katrina. Please forward this link to any educators that might be interested in submitting poetry for the kids that they teach. [link removed]
This is my first year teaching 4th grade writing. I would like to know what strategies you use to prepare your students for the TAKS test. My kids are not doing very well on their TAKS practice sheets for the revising and editing portion of the test. I have them mark corrections they see in the passage and cross out answer choices that they know are wrong. Any ideas for teaching writing in Texas would be appreciated. Thanks.
KMooreWe use PEG. Pencil to the Paper, Edit as you go, Go back, Go back, You pegged it don't know! I make them edit mistakes as they read the story, then go back and try each answer choice in the story. That way they can't just guess.
