This year I am thinking about planning a week of activities to celebrate RAA. I would like to have a theme or event for each of 5 days. So far I have 3 ideas, some of which I saw posted on this board:
1. Banner day-each class make a banner promoting reading. Banners will be displayed in the school hallways. 2. Whoville Hair Day- wear your hair like Dr. Seuss character. 3.Guest reader day- volunteers from the community visit and read to the students. I may talk to the librarian about the possibility of a "Battle of the Books" competition. Does anyone out there have some useful ideas that I can use? Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I am a Spec Ed teacher that teaches High School in Atlanta, GA. I am considering getting a Master's in Reading. I saw that last year in my county they school system had a lot of positions for Reading Coaches or Literacy Coaches. I was wondering exactly what the position entails and what is the difference in being a Reading Specialist. Also does anyone know if there are a lot of positions in Elementary for these positions?

Hello...I am currently teaching Kindergarten in Taiwan and I am in dire need of a script for the Grinch Who Stole Christmas. Can anyone help me out? I would greatly appreciate any help other teachers could offer me. Plleaasse!
I'm looking for some good kids' magazines or websites that offer (preferably free) non-fiction articles for kids at a first or second grade reading level. I've looked through national geographic kids, Highlights, Sports Illustrated for Kids, and they all seem a little "high" for the ESOL kids that I'm working with. thanks

Try A-Z reading. There is a subscription fee, but our school bought one and its worth the price. Books are leveled; comprehension quiz, activity sheets and lesson plans.
Hi everyone, I have a grade 7 class. Half of them know how to use the 4 square method. The other half doesn't. The other grade 7 class has the same problem. I would like to take all of the kids who don't know the 4 square and spend a few days a week teaching them the program. Any suggestions on what what I can do with the kids who already know the program????? Preferably writing based, but I am open to other English ideas.
Has anyone read/used this book (Worksheets Don't Build Dendrites)? It is supposed to have reading/writing activities and strategies. I was wondering if it was worth purchasing. I teach 5th grade.
