It looks like I'll be accepting a 7th/8th grade English teaching position (3 classes of 8th and 2 classes of 7th) in the middle of this school year. Their 1st teacher left after 6 weeks due to an illness, and their 2nd teacher left last week with no notice. I have 5 years elementary experience - mostly 5th grade - but no middle school.
I could really use any and all help. Any ideas of how to get them on my side?? (I was thinking of maybe spending a day or 2 on ice breakers - like 2 truths and lie.)

Dear Danielle, Are you familiar with Phono-Graphix? Phono-Graphix is similar to Orton Gillingham, but it is quicker and very effective!! Please e-mail me at [email removed]

Hi Danielle, I just completed an Orton-Gillngham training. I work in the public schools as a Speech/Language Pathologist and I have a son who struggles with reading. The course has been the most practical course I have ever taken and I believe it will help me to make a difference in the lives of the students I am working with. I have seen the benefits of using a multisensory approach to learning at my son's school (a Waldorf school) and I know it works. Lisa
I just took a grad course from an Orton Gillingham fellow and it was fantastic. As part of the class she gave us "subscriber member" training (overview of the OG philpsophy). I am very interested in getting more training and would also like to hear from anyone who has taken it.

Good news if you teach in North Carolina: Kimberly Burke will be presenting on scrolls and textmapping at the North Carolina Middle School Association annual conference in March 2006. Kim is a Middle School Reading Specialist in Lincolnton, NC. More information here: [link removed]

I am looking for leveled materials for a timed reading assessment, for middle school, that has the number of words in the passage printed in the margin?
I have seen them but I don't know who publishes them and I would like to get a hold of them.
I thought I posted this earlier but when I came back to see if there were responses I couldn't find it. Oh, well.
I am trying to locate a set of leveled reading passages that have the number of words printed in the margin to use for one minute timed assessments. Does anyone know what I am talking about and where I can get them?
Back in the 1970's while I was a 1st grade teacher I used a series of audio cassettes that the children listened to in helping them to read. Over the years I forgot the name of the tapes but I do remember that there was a ghost in the series. Does anyone remember the name of this
Back in the 1970's while a first grade teacher and back then I used a series of audio cassettes for my children to help them in reading. I do not remember the name of the series, but I do remember there was a ghost who helped out. Can anyone remember this
