I am on the school's RAA committee for the first time this year. I am interested in hearing about how other schools celebrate this event. In the past, we have invited guest readers from the community, had reading contests, decorated our doors, and had assemblies in which we recited Dr. Seuss literature. I am particularly interested in activities that need little preparation, and that teachers at your school have "bought into". Thanks in advance for your posts.

We are having a Dr. Seuss Birthday Party after school at Lee Elementary in Long Beach California. Parents and teachers will read Dr. Seuss books to small groups of students and parents. We will then serve Birthday cake to students and parents.
We are video- conferencing with another 1st gfade class in New York. We are from Oklhoma. Many other classes in our school will be video-confresing as well with other classes from all over. It is set up by the Michigan NEA afflita I think, We also will wear our pajamas and read all over the school. Some High School students will come to our school and read. We have learned a song so far and working on a movement/dance activity to a simple song that gets faster and faster called Green Eggs and Ham.
Sarah Bain Gallery in Brea, CA. will be hosting the Dr. Seuss Museum Tour in February and March, 2005. This coincides with Ted Geisel's birthday so we are having a children's book reading on March 2nd. This will be an all day/evening event and we are currently asking celebrities to contribute their time to read to the children. If any teacher's or parents would like to bring their students or children please stop by, it is free of charge.
