We t...See MoreI would like to have ideas that others are doing for Read Across America Day! March 2, 2010.
Here are my plans:
Guest Readers from the community, HS Athletes that are good role models for my students, and school administration.
Start the day with Green Eggs and Ham book then cook Green Eggs and Ham! FUN~
We then celebrate Dr. Seuss's Birthday in the afternoon with cupcakes and sing Happy Birthday to Dr. Seuss.
I have a display of books and animals that are all Dr. Seuss (I purchased these at Kohl's for $5 each!!)
I have the author study on the bulletin board about Dr. Seuss so we learn all about him on this day.
I also use Skype in my classroom and have several guest readers on Skype. This is a GREAT tool if you are not currently using it! :) Any questions about it I would love to share all that I use it for.
Southern Elementary is participating in the Read Across America. Classroom doors have been decorated with the Dr. Seuss theme. You may email your vote by emailing, pam.[email removed].
My class last year started a post card project last year from postcrossing.com and we have had a lot of fun. would like to connect with a similar class from somewhere in the states or canada to send/receive a postcard from and to receive information about your area. I read another post about the class making an information book about their area and sending it to another class.

Westhoff Elementary is competing to receive a grant through the Pepsi Refresh Project's online voting in December. People can vote once per day throughout the month, and the projects that receive the most votes will win grant funding.
With the “Today a Reader, Tomorrow a Leader Grant” a wide variety of fiction and non-fiction books will be purchased for students to use in guided reading instruction. Funds will also provide access to an online reading program to benefit both students and teachers. The books in the bookroom will be used by teachers in all grades (K-5) to provide Westhoff's 500 students with the texts needed to learn to think both critically and creatively.
To vote, go online to the Pepsi Refresh Project site refresheverything.com/westhoff. For more information on Westhoff Elementary, call 636-272-6710, or visit the Fort Zumwalt School District’s web site [link removed].
