I would like to try a new project with my class this next year that deals with writing a chapter book. I am looking for three 3rd grade teachers to work with me. The guidelines i am thinking about are: The first nine weeks of school you create the book and write the first chapter. You write one story chapter as an interactive activity with the whole class.Your students illustrate the first chapter. Then you mail it to the next person in the group and they add on the next chapter in the next nine weeks. So, each nine weeks you get someone elses book until you get yours back. As each class works on the book they could email pictures of their class working on it and a synopsis of what they added. I am open to any suggestions. Anyone interested?
Someone responded to me about this writing project and I lost their email. Right now I have kat in the group. If you emailed me or are interested please respond so I can set up the final group.

Hi teachers, This fifth year group is looking for someone to represent your state in our postcard exchange for 07-08. Let me know if you would like to join us.
I was just surfing around Discover magazine’s website and read that they’re holding a cover design contest for their October issue, about the state of science in America. They want kids in 3rd grade to middle school to design a cover that illustrates the “importance, wonder, and urgency of science in America today. The winner of the competition, along with six finalists, will be profiled in the October issue and on DISCOVER’s home page.”
This sounds to me like a fun way to get kids to think about the sciences and their application to our world today, but what do you think?
Hello all- Forgive me if this is not the best forum, but I am trying to locate a suitable site to place the following, a site that teachers of Spanish (or any potential interested people) would read this:
Basically, I am teaching English in Spain, and I live with a wonderful family here, with 3 girls aged 7, 10, and 13. The mother is a professor at the University of Santiago de Compostela and because she isn't so familiar with American posting forums, I am doing my best to help her. She would like to establish a relationship with an American family that has a daughter(s) of around the same ages so that the families could do a short intercultural exchange- a two week period, but that could be discussed between the families. She would like to host a 13-15 girl, with some knowledge of Spanish, in her home and later, she would like to be able to send her oldest daughter for a visit with this American family. She has this arrangement with German and French families, and this family has been hosting aupairs in their home for many years now. They have plenty of verfiable references (including an American family that lives here) and could provide clean background checks to alleviate any concerns(and of course, the same would be asked in return, easily obtainable from your local police department).
I myself am American (from Portland, OR) and I love this family immensely. I have been living with them for a year, and I am going to have a relationship with them for life. This would be a good opportunity for a family that loves Spanish to have a relationship with a wonderful family in one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. The girls have a very good knowledge of English, and the mother would ensure that the teenager visiting would have adequate Spanish practice (with the rest of the family and with friends).
I apologize if this isn't the appropriate forum for this ad, but if anyone interested would like more information or would like to contact the parents, please let me know, or let me know a more suitable place to put this.
Hola Kari, I am a Spanish teacher in Syracuse, NY. I have lived in Spain and love it! I will be returning in a month with students of my own but only for 12 days. I am currently trying to research how to do a Fulbright exchange but with my family. I came across your website and would be happy to help. I actually have 5 kids. The oldest is 13 and he has just started Spanish and loves it,. I think this is a great way for him to actually learn some Spanish, while she learns English. Please contact me and perhaps we can get them chatting. I know she wanted to speak with a girl, but my son would really love it. My name is Lisa and his name is Ryan. Nice chatting and hope to hear from you soon!!

Would you like to be involved in an e-mail/postal project that incorporates writing, research, art, geography and technology? Then The 2007-2008 Quilt Project is for you!
What is it? Over the past four years this project has connected many classrooms across the USA. Students have been able to communicate with other students through e- mail written letters about their state. They have been able to express themselves in art by creating wonderful muslin quilt squares representing their state that are mailed to the other participants. The use of quilt squares has also allowed students to learn the age-old tradition of quilting. What is the timeline? We will begin with an introductory letter sent by e-mail by October 1st. This will be followed by an exchange of quilt squares through the postal mails that will take place over two months, from October 15th to December 15th (you will select a time within that window that fits your schedule and let the group know in your introductory letter when they will be sent.) After January we will exchange e-mail information and online brochures about our class and state, favorite recipes, and math challenges. You will have from January to April to complete your quilt and submit a photo of it to our quilt web site. Is there a theme? The theme is Animals Across America. Each participating class will design a white muslin 8’by8” square for their state that incorporates an animal from their state. This unique design will be placed on 50 quilt squares and mailed to the other participanst (Exact design dimensions will be given to all participants) What is the cost? The quilt squares will be 8’ by 8” on WHITE muslin (about $1.98 a yard) They will be mailed so postage is about $18.50 Materials have ranged from fabric markers to iron on fabric or computer printouts on fabric ( $10.00-$20.00)Hint-Sometimes parents have these materials and will donate them to you! What states are available? States will be assigned as responses are received on a first come basis. When do I have to decide? Please contact me at wendy.[email removed]
