I would like to give elementary classrooms an opportunity to compare the climate and weather in your area with others around the world. You can also add pictures and tell a little about your area.
I have created a wiki also titled On The Same Day In March for sharing information.
This is the second year for this activity. Hopefully, we will have repeat and new participants. Any interest???

The television show morphs into a teaching project. This is a project that allows you to put to work your knowledge of Earth Science to track down and capture the dangerous Monster. You will have to become an Earth Science expert to complete this mission. How does this work you ask? Each participating class will have to create a monster based of truth, fact, myth, legend and knowledge of the Earth Science of the schools particular region. For example if your school is near a swamp you might use animals that live near or around a swamp, if your school is in a desert you would do likewise. Once you create your monster you develop a story that explains the characteristics of the monster complete with newspaper stories of sighting account from eye witnesses. You would develop a picture of what your monster looks like. Then you would send bits of information about your monster on a schedule to the other schools who would then develop a profile on each monster so they might one day track it down and prove it exist. This would be done by email or packages between the teachers on a regularly scheduled interval. By the end of the semester each school will have located the best place to look for the monster. They will have developed a profile based on what they know and what it might be. They will also draw a picture and send it to the monster¡¦s school so they can compare their rendition of their monster with their own to see how close they got. Teacher Check List o Picture of Monster o Characteristics of Monster o Newspaper stories on sightings o Local¡¦s guesses on what it might be and why it is there

Being present when the student arrives is a welcoming gesture. There were many procedures that were useful to me when I did my student teaching. I have incorporated them into my schedule so the students can have a meaningful and educational learning experience. The more you use them the more familiar they become to you. First, I make a packet with various kinds of information about our school and classroom. The packet includes a copy of the school schedule, handbook, student list, a list of special activities that occur during their clinical(field trips, assemblies, etc.) and names of other teachers who may be helpful when they need assistance or have a question if I am unavailable for some reason. I give them a small gift something that will be useful during their teaching experience(stickers, post-it-notes etc.). The small token is to show them that I am interested and want to be supportive. Everyone likes to feel like they are a part of the group so I try and introduce them to all the staff members. As we meet and greet I also show the student the physical facility. The students seem to appreciate these welcoming features. CJH
