We still need a representative from your state. Please email me if you would like to participate in sending and receiving approximately 50 postcards from around the United States and a few other countries. We will be sending out the cards starting in September and finishing up before Thanksgiving. Take a look at the website I created to display last years cards for ideas of what to write on the back. It is a great opportunity to see the world without leaving your classroom. I look forward to hearing from you.
The following states are still needed to complete our Postcard Exchange: AL, AK, CO, CT, DE, DC, IA, KS, KY, ME, MD, MN, MT, NV, NH, ND, OR, RI, SC, SD, WV, WY
If you are interested, please e-mail me your school address. We would love to have you. To find out more about the Postcard Exchange, read on.
I teach 5th grade and find that a postcard exchange ties in well as a geography review, as well as writing--the format of a postcard.
If you choose to join, your job will be to send each participant a postcard. Usually I have my class create one postcard and then photocopy and glue it on individual postcards. In the letter we include information about our state and our school.
Then when we receive the various cards from other states we display them on a bulletin board. I put a U.S. map on the wall and everytime I receive a card we put a pin in that city/state and attach the postcard.
My students love receiving the postcards. They have an opportunity to learn little things about states and schools.
At the end of the summer I will be e-mailing all of the participants a list of addresses that will be involved in the exchange. Usually we have about 30 states, I would love to get all 50 states, but I haven't had that happen yet. Let me know if you have any other questions or if you are interested so I can add your state to our list.
Join the fun! We need ONE CLASS from Alaska to help complete our postcard group. If interested, you will need to obtain about 50 picture postcards and stamps. Include a message about your state (state symbols, interesting facts, famous places, people, etc.) We will mail our postcards in October. I will supply preprinted address labels. If you are interested in joining our group, please email me or go to my website and sign up there.
It's so much fun to see the excitement in your class when the mail comes and the postcards begin to arrive. US Geography has never been so much fun!

I am available to come to you if you would like to take the following course in Story Drama.
OR...perhaps you would just like my KIT on Story Drama...
"Becoming Your Story Workshop. " This is a four week course (once a week) and each class is ninety minutes long. We discuss the origins of storytelling, how "oral interpretation" puts ZEST into YOUR storytelling, how interactive storytelling enhances story drama, costume and character ideas, business card know-how and flyer ideas, fees to charge if you decide to become a public storyteller, dealing with the public, handling children and how to keep their attention, problem-solving, how to market ones self as a storyteller, dialects, how music and art influence story drama, age-appropriate materials, the use of props and puppets, volunteering your time, periodical and catalogue contacts for storytelling and drama… and much more. No more than twelve students to one class. This is wonderful for seniors, teens, or young mothers who want to put some zest into their children’s stories!
*"Becoming Your Story Kit"... This is a kit which allows self instruction on all the areas covered in the "Becoming Your Story Workshop" described above. Many of my original stories and skits are included in this kit..
*"Story in A Tube!"...this makes a fun birthday gift...and is sent out immediatly to the birthday child! I have also sent this each month to individual classes...with many original stories in it.
Thanks, Pam Steadman, Clip Clop Enterprises, Inc. 2004
