The following states are still needed to complete our Postcard Exchange: AK, DC, MT, NM, VA,WY ONLY the above states are needed.
If you are interested, please e-mail me your school address. crutherford_308yahoo.com We would love to have you. To find out more about the Postcard Exchange, read on.
I teach 5th grade and find that a postcard exchange ties in well as a geography review, as well as writing--the format of a postcard.
If you choose to join, your job will be to send each participant a postcard. Usually I have my class create one postcard and then photocopy and glue it on individual postcards. In the letter we include information about our state and our school.
Then when we receive the various cards from other states we display them on a bulletin board. I put a U.S. map on the wall and everytime I receive a card we put a pin in that city/state and attach the postcard.
My students love receiving the postcards. They have an opportunity to learn little things about states and schools.
At the end of the summer I will be e-mailing all of the participants a list of addresses that will be involved in the exchange.
Let me know if you have any other questions or if you are interested so I can take your state off of our list.

Tha school was fully supported by Mother Teresa and Mother herself spent few years assisting the school programs in diffirent ways. My cousin wants to come and teach here for one year to understand educational patterns sp that she can go back to India after one year and teach on the same lines which are more technology driven and system- centric Plz advice me from where to start? and how I can approach to the schools to set her up for this. Her major is in Science- Biology, Physics, Maths and she is teaching from more than 3 yrs in India. Any guidance will be highly appreciated towards her Visa sponsorship which will let her work for atleast 1 year, if not one year atleast 3-6 mnths which will give her enough time to understand the teaching patterns here in USA. HI, We are wanting to move to Homer, Alaska. I will be a certified art teacher very soon. What is the need for the art instructors in Alaska and would it be wise to become certified in ESL as well? Thanks for any info!! I am in Tennessee!

ESL certification is worthwhile but getting a teaching job in Homer is near impossible. It's a small town and there are lots of people who'd like to work there. IF you want to teach in Anchorage or Mat/Su districts you'll have much better luck as an Art teacher. ESL and Art would help in those districts. Small bush schools really can't hire art teachers, they need elementary or secondary teachers who can teach multiple grades. good luck ps. the state dept of ed. has links to districts and a statewide job listing service from UAF
