In Anchorage there are health teachers at the elementary level. I don't know about the middle school/high school level. Elementary teachers work at 2 or more schools.
Bernice W.: we taught at the same school in Hawaii. Want to find her now! Please let her know if you see this. Bernice! Aloha... Remember Kalihi Waena? I would love to find you now. NE :)
Is there a more current way to access scales, or is this impossible due to the multi district approach. I am aware of Alaska Teacher Preparation's site having information, often several years old, for many but not all districts. Pribilof Islands information? North Slope information?

LKSD has a position advertised in Kaltag; the school itself isn't listed on the district website and nobody answers the phone at the school. Does anybody know what's going on? Once before I took a position without finding out the true state of affairs and I really regretted it. Any info or contacts would be appreciated.

LOL No, that isn't my view at all. What I said was that traditionally, that is the way the roles are perceived and apparently, nothing much has changed although it does appear that it is changing slightly. Listen, I don't have an axe to grind, I don't have an agenda to advance, I was merely asking for input regarding teaching opportunities in Alaska. I do not believe that all female educators believe that all men who teach are child molesters in waiting anymore than I believe that all women who teach are destined to become bitter old marms who remain single all their lives and grow old having never known love. They are both stereotypes and nothing more. I am willing to let my qualities and my dedication to my job speak for me and if someone, anyone cannot see those and make a decision based on those things, then it probably isn't a school district I want to work in any way. Thanks again for your input.

Well, to be honest with you, that is the kind of information I have been looking for. I am not above a face-to-face and in fact, I prefer that to an impersonal interview and hiring process. The best way to find out if all parties are concerned are a match is to meet in person and discuss expectations of both sides. Having been in the Marine Corps, I am no stranger to having to prove myself and no stranger to letting my qualities and my abilities speak for themselves. Thanks very much for the helpful info and I will take it to heart. All the best to you and your family. Take care.
