Also, I want to understand to what degree the school and community are so tightly bound together that the freedom not to attend some community functions may not really exist. Again... that's fine - just curious :)
Tuesday March 17th teachers on the North Slope received an email saying the super. had resigned. Not sure of the effective date, but this is his last year.
Another cover up on the turnover was how it was reported. Teachers that did not get a contract for the following year were reported as quitting since they resign to get the recommendation. Of course they did not quit, but looks better when telling the board.

My wife and I are currently teachers in WV and are thinking about possibly relocating to Alaska. I am a high school Social Studies teacher with National Board Certification and my wife has her Master's degree in Special Education areas of LD, BD, and MI. What would be our job prospects?

That sure has an euphemistic ring. I believe he left on a little training session and forgot to return. But, yes, good luck in Nevada if your school boards are as cavalier and disorderly in their hiring process as some of ours are.
I have BAD vibes about Blankenship and the possibility he could be applying for the WCSD sup job. I am no longer with WCSD, but things will get much worse if he comes here.

Which district is this? I assume in NV? My wife wants to move there, tired of the dark, the snow in May and the isolation. Reading the posts on teacher net as well as newspaper articles, it doesn't sound like a good time to be looking for work anywhere except in AK.

The district stinks, quite frankly (lots of nepotism and they treated me horribly when they terminated me last year, I believe because they wanted to cheat me out of my retirement benefits), although it apparently isn't as bad as Clark County.
But the budget situation is pretty bad regardless, so it's not the best time to be looking for a job.

EaWhat is going on? I am surprised there were not many responses to this post. Does anyone care about teachers, whether novice or veteran? I thought that we were supposed care about ourselves and each other, solidarity and all of that good stuff.
