We would love to have an elementary teacher from Alaska to join our postcard exchange. Please send your name, school and school address and an email address to contact you through. Hoping you will join us!!
We are looking to complete our postcard exchange with the 50 states plus D.C. We need a teacher from Alaska to participate. If you are interested, email me your name, school name, school address, grade level, and email address. Thanks
Most of the teachers in our region are highly unprepared for immigrant students that are moving into the area. I'm wondering how other teachers are handling the challenges. How prepared do you feel to teach students who don't speak English? What is your school doing, or what should they be doing to get us ready?
Sincerely,

Happy Thanksgiving, and thanks again for your unwavering support.

As for p.e. in Anchorage, some teachers are split between two or three schools, and I'm not sure if they are full time. In my school, we have three p.e. teachers - with one being full time. The others teach for 1 or 2 days a week. We only have one gym, so one teacher is usually inside and the other is outside. Every now and then they will team up and combine classes - especially when we have negative temperatures.
I think it is wise to be highly qualified in elementary and start there. It would probably be much easier to get that p.e. job once you were already an employee with good local recommendations.
I don't know about middle school/high school. I do see a lot of postings for various coaching positions (which most you could only do as a middle/high school teacher in Anchorage because the high school day ends earlier than elementary - meaning high school sports start while elementary is still in session).
If you were in the bush you could teach elementary and most likely be able to coach at the end of the school day. Basketball is a common sport played in most villages. To teach upper grades in the bush you will need to be highly qualified in multiple areas because you most likely will teach multiple subjects a day.
