I've taught in Alaska for 5 years and it is a hard and rewarding experience. However, the only district large enough and with sufficient turnover to employ 2 music teachers are going to be Mat-Su and Anchorage. Anchorage is, in my opinion, a rude town, as used in the classical sense of wilderness. There are no operas. A couple good theatre companies with excellent talent provide acting opportunities but compared to larger cities the infrastructure is decidedly spartan. Anchorage is also on the road system and possesses little of the individual character and uniqueness that mark rural, off-road villages. The third weekend of April is the state teacher fair at the Captain Cook hotel. Most Alaska school districts have a booth with administrators who will sign a contract on the spot. This is a great way to see what is available and get a sense of what the different geographical areas of Alaska are like.
