Also, I want to understand to what degree the school and community are so tightly bound together that the freedom not to attend some community functions may not really exist. Again... that's fine - just curious :)

If you want to check sex offenders you can pull up that info on the internet. They have a state site that list every sex offender and where they live. Alaska has a very high rate of sex related crimes. I have looked at several locations around Alaska and it is very common to have a high rate in the smaller locations.
