resume. I would have been very interested in it. I am also willing to telephone anyone or have them telephone me. I hoped to get resumes as I review the resume and then telephone those I think may be suitable for the position. Thanks to those who gave input about posting the school name, address, etc., but we are a tiny private school and I get a lot of people who call and come by who are limited in what they are interested in and they would not be a good fit for this position. As you can imagine, I get many responses for each job and want to spend time with those I feel would be interested and best for this job. I am looking for an experienced teacher and someone who is very motivated and a self-starter. I want to discuss the particulars of the job with the individual on the phone or in person rather than have an influx of parties come by the school at inconvienient times. I am willing to give out my phone number or whatever I need to do to assist anyone interested. Thanks, Ronda
why are you being so secretive? how much do you pay? I do not think you are looking for a good teacher. You want someone who you can use.

I am going to the University Of South Alabama in Mobile. I am finishing up my degree in English and Secondary Education. Is it worth it to try and teach? I looked through the board on here and it seems that it is pretty hard to get a job. Any advice or pointers for me. Anything that you have to offer would be great.
"Book teachers" simply teach directly from the book. All homework assignments, quizzes and tests are directly derived from the class text. Their knowledge in the subject matter is shamefully negligible. Past tests are shared between students for easy grades. Memorization for regurgitation is the key to passing their classes. Administration receives little or no student complaints for obvious reasons.
"Check collectors" are teachers who, out of incompetence and/or apathy, do the bare minimum and deprive any viable educational growth in their pupils. They are simply in the field for a paycheck, medical and retirement benefits, and the generous vacation periods. They are better off working in toll booths.
"Buddy teachers" lack the courage and competence to be effective instructors; therefore, out of a need for acceptance and job security, attempt to befriend their students. One should remember that education is not necessarily a popularity contest; earning favorable, respectful approval is more beneficial for all involved in the process as a natural byproduct and goal which mostly true educators earn. The buddy technique usually backfires with the lamentable result being disrespect from the pupils.
“Tyrant teachers” focus classroom time more on chastising and dishing out punitive measures than imparting fair and balanced discipline when appropriate. During free time and prep hours, tyrant teachers can be found patrolling the hallways and bathrooms seeking out deviants to be sent down to the office. Often they have old axes to grind from their disappointing days in grade school and attempt to make up for shortcomings in other areas. However, they do make assistant principals jobs easier.
"True educators" are a rare breed indeed and perhaps should be added to the endangered species list. These are learned, focused, and devoted educators who know their material, impart it in such a way as to inspire students to learn. They put time into their lesson plans and consider the group and the individual with the same sincere intent and regard. Enthusiasm and knowledge abound in the classroom instead of discontent, boredom, misbehavior and daytime snoozing as you have with the aforementioned. The harshest level they may practice in class is that of benevolent dictator.

If I am not mistaken, you must go to barton academy in downtown mobile. They should have you get your fingerprints done, then I believe you take a short test and explain why you want to substitute. But just incase, I would call barton academy.
If you teach in the Jefferson County area, and interested in short-term tutorial projects, please email me back. You may also visit our website listed above.

My class will be reading the story the Gingerbread Man and doing a project with it. I am asking if anyone would mind assisting with this... if you would like to please email me at [email removed].
Project letter: My name is the Gingerbread Man, my friend in CLass 2H was reading a story about me and i jumped out of the storybook to visit you. My friend at school is wondering where I have run to. Please help them by sending them a picture postcard showing them the area where you live. This postcard will be posted on a large map of the world outside of my classroom. This will help the children by showing them how different parts of the world look. I know my friends will enjoy hearing from you and learning where I have run! Thank you for your help! Got to go! The Gingerbread Man

Is everyone in the state going through the changing of reading programs every 2 or 3 years and getting ripped off by publishing companies? I think this is absurd. I don't think anyone at the state department is looking out for the teachers and children.
No. The State of Alabama authorizes new textbook adoptions every 7 years for each content area on a specific basis. This is the year for reading adoption. The only exception in the last 20+ years was the recent Science textbook adoption. We adopted only 2-3 years after last adoption after aligning State Science standards with new National standards.

The Mississippi State University Rocket Team and NAR Section #695 want to announce the first MSU Space Cowboys Middle School Launch Challenge (MSLC). It will be held April 12, 2008 at Mississippi State University. The winning team will win $1,000 School teams and other groups (girl scouts, boy scouts, etc) from any state are welcome and encouraged to participate.
The MSU Space Cowboys Middle School Launch Challenge is a contest for middle school students (6-8th grades) to design, build, test, and fly a rocket with a scientific payload to 800 ft. AGL. Emphasis will also be placed on two written papers that will be due in the course of the contest. This contest is designed to introduce middle school students to not only rocketry, but to aspects of mission planning and teamwork coming together to achieve a successful mission. Flight reviews, budgeting, scheduling, logistics, teamwork, and safety are all important key topics (in addition to the vehicle and its flight) that will addressed in this competition.
The contest will be divided into two distinct sections: the flight of the rocket and review papers. The review papers are designed similar to what real NASA engineers have to present prior to their launches. The papers for this contest show insight that the team has gained in the course of design and construction, and testing and validation. Each paper will be 3-5 pages in length. Feedback will be received from the Space Cowboys.
The flight itself will be graded by: whether or not the team conducts themselves professionally, all safety guidelines and rules followed, successful flight, successful recovery, and altitude. Safety is paramount on launch day. Unsafe rockets or rocketeers will not be allowed to launch under any circumstances. The contest launch will be conducted in accordance with the guidelines set out by the National Association of Rocketry.
The top three winners of the contest will receive a cash prize in the name of their school/organization. The total purse for this contest is $1,350, with $1,000 going to the winning school. There will also be other prizes handed out on launch day.
TIMELINE February 1, 2008 – Entry Forms Due March 14, 2008 – Progress Reports Due April 7, 2008 – Readiness Review Due April 12, 2008 - Launch Day – Mississippi State University
