LindaAre you in the Birmingham area? That district has 20 math and science unfilled positions. They're paying certified math and science subs $200 a day. I'm looking for subsitutes to interview. Please call, 205- 410-3406 or email, [email removed]

I will take the suggestions about the schools that are hiring and work on that this coming week! I am definitely open to doing a leave of some kind. I am keeping my eyes open for that too! Thanks again Ronda!

I am back in my classroom today. School starts for me on Aug. 4th. I am eagerly looking forward to meeting my new kids. Relationships with the kids and their families is what teaching is all about to me. I am happily labeling crayon baskets and cubbies, still excited after 25 years. Bo

I have a question that I was hoping someone could help me out with. I have a B.S. in Business Administration and have worked for a recruiting firm for the past 3 years. Prior to that I was in the US Air Force. I have come to realize that I really want to become a teacher. How would I go about getting certified to teach business ed classes? Also, are there any lateral entry programs in the Birmingham area, and if so who would I contact to inquire more information? Thanks in advance for your help!
On 7/27/0...See MoreWilliam, I'm familiar with career/tech programs in the Jefferson County system. You might talk to Kay Harris who is the career/tech director. There are five required courses taught through Athens college that would get you started toward certification. I came out of industry to teach and have never looked back. Good Luck, Skyhook

I need to find out how to get the CEUSs in Ala. I have a Middle School Certificate which will expire June 2009 and I have never taught in Al. I taught in Ga nine years. They have several ways to get the CEUs but I am having trouble finding them here.
Most of the state professional organizations have yearly conferences where you can obtain CEUs. Also, most of the inservice centers have workshops you can attend, especially in the summer.
Do any of you know of any private school or charter school jobs K-7? I can locate any place above mid-state. I hold South Carolina and Georgia certification, but not Alabama.

I recently moved to Alabama and am having a very difficult time getting teacher certification. I haven't done my CFY yet for ASHA, but my master's program included teacher preparation and I did a full time student teaching. I passed the praxis exam for speech pathology also. I'd appreciate any advice from other SLPs out there! Thanks!
