Hello, I am originally from New Jersey were I held a school social workers certification and case managed special education. I held that same certification in Georgia and taught alternative route special education there for two years. When I married and moved here a year ago, I realized that Alabama does not have a school social work certification and those positions are usually handled on a district by district basis. I really want back in public education. I miss the 10 month year. To pay the bills, I dusted off my nursing lic. and work shifts as a nurse currently in home care. I miss the children. My masters degree is in social work with concentration in counseling children and families from Fordham University in NY. I need a mentor who can advise me on what route to take here in Alabama. Ultimately I would like to be a guidance counselor but I think you have to teach here first? Or perhaps at my age -49- I should just get a start at teaching jr. college? I would appreciate any help...See More
Liza I suggest checking on your credentials for teaching at Calhoun Community College. For Madison County, call 852-7073 and talk to someone in the special ed department. Our school social workers are hired through this department. They do hire contract people.
