I know some of you wondered what happened to my site and it is now back up. I was reworking the site when my mother had surgery and my school had state testing (I am the test coordinator and literacy coordinator) Anyway, I tried to get it up and running again. If you need novel units with lesson plans, reader's theater scripts, comprehension ideas, centers, word walls etc. you can go to literacynook.com and check out the links :)
I HAVE A SON THAT NEEDS TO TUTOR. I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT THE SYLVAN LEARNING CENTER IN BENTONVILLE. I AM HAVING A HARD TIME WITH THE 235.00 FOR THE DIAGNOSTING TEST.

I used Sylvan several years ago for my son w/ learning disabilities. He was in 5th grade reading 1st grade level. They promised one grade level inprovement for each 6 mo. of tutoring. We were pleased with the results. After one year, he was reading 5th grade, but by then he was in 6th grade. Pretty good results I thought. I had a 4th grade daughter who got less results and was very frustrated before any real major improvement. We were drining a long distance so it was a difficult situation, once a week for two hours.

I am a senior at a high school in Texas. We just finished our One Act Play, and now charges are being brought against our dedicated director. The coaching staff was very upset because we only had one dressing room, making it a co-ed dressing room. They told officails that it was not right that high schoolers were allowed to see classmates naked. But that is not the case at all, "walls" were built, out of everything we could find,(Blankets, poeple, jackets, etc.)to give privacy to classmates. I am at my witts end, I speak to the officails daily and my voice is not heard. And some of my fellow classmates are put into ISS for speaking their mind. The only reason I am not with my classmates is because I have "deep roots" in the community, and it would not look good if I was "silenced." I do not know what to do. If anyone has any information on what to do, please respond, and help me save a dedicated teacher and a program that helps many teenagers. Thanks, Kendra
I would be asking the question as to why the coaching staff took such an interest in the situation if the first place. Is there some sort of conflict we dont know about. My experience has been that athletic department turn out to academic department events where there are not a number of athletes involved, has been spotty at best. So again, why the sudden interest in the backstage workings of the drama dept. which has obviously doing things this way for some time because of lack of proper facilities?
Was there a coach's son or daughter or one of their athletes involved in the show? Was the coaching staff recently read the riot act by the principle, superintendent, schoolboard, or PTA for some sort of mixed sexes issue? Is it a payback vendeta against the drama director for some comment or something?
It is my impression that the politics of schools, inside the classroom, inside the school walls, and outside the school walls can be a hot issue with all sorts of unseen forces at work. A sticky wicket to say the least. ask the questions, because something is not as it 'seems' or to paraphrase Hamlet:
Why seems it so particular? Seems? nay it is.

Where I come from its a small school, 150 kids K-12. So everybody does everything. There were a number of athletes who participated in OAP. And a coach's daughter was in the production, but he gave up custody of her years ago. He was the main instigator when it came to getting the Drama teacher fired. (She was also the high school and jr high English teacher.) I guess he did have a personal vendate against her. The reason I say this is becuase he believed that his daughter was "too" close to "his daughter." Mind you, he doesn't acknowledge his daughter when they pass by in the hall everyday. But the issue is settled now, charges were dropped after the coach physical got in the Drama teachers face and threaten to "get" her in the principal's office. The principal just stood there didn't do anything, but he told the Drama teacher to leave his office before something happened. You might ask how I know this, I was the Drama teachers witness. I was brought in on all the meetings. You might ask what happened to the coach? He is still coaching at the same school, along with the Drama teacher. She was told that there wasn't enough evidences to prove anything went on in the dressing room, but she was written up because she "provoked another teacher into a rage." The coach was not written up. Surprisingly enough, they are still employee at the same school. Oh did I mention that the coach's son is the star quaterback, and has won 2 state championships in football for this small town?

How was the gr. 5-9 PLT? I've done some studying and it doesn't seem that bad, but I've also heard a few horror stories. What was your experience? Any advice?
I live in a state that has no need for teachers. Considering relocating to Little Rock. Would appreciate any input from folks that are familiar with the district and the area. Are there nice suburbs? Is it a good district to work for? Are the people friendly??
Any advice would be appreciated. I am strongly considering relocating to AR. from out of state. I have a special ed credential but my particular state is in chaos with a surplus of teachers. What is Little Rock like? What is teaching in Little Rock like? Are there decent places to live within range of the district? Thank you.
I live in Fayetteville, Ar and there is a need for special education teachers here. I'm not sure about Little Rock. Here is a link for employment opportunities in Fayetteville.[link removed]
Thank you for the response. I'll send Fayetteville an app along with Little Rock.
