I teach 5th grade in Florida and I am trying to start a postcard exchange for my class. I am looking for a class that **promises** to participate. It is so fun and any elementary grade can do it. I am accepting the first teacher from each state that emails me. It is super easy and fun!
All you have to do is request that each parent send in 2 stamped postcards that have your state name on it. Then when the due date comes, you have your students write facts about your state's climate, what it is famous for, etc. In return you will also get a postcard from each state. The kids LOVE getting the mail and you can do so much with it.
If interested, please email me at gator.[email removed]!
...with no real luck! Does anyone have a place that may give me a daily historical fact on the state? The CARAT lists at ark-hives.com came the closest but not quite! I appreciate your help! Jack/AR

Hi Jack: The Encyclopedia of Arkansas History & Culture ([link removed].

I thank you! I have been going there every morning and snagging a bell ringer for my students. I just wish that there was a spot somewhere that had them listed by the month or even the year! Thank you again! Jack/AR

Does anyone know of any (teaching) master's programs that are completely or primarly online? I want to get started on my masters (MAT or any other that might be offered), but since I'm new to AR, aren't really familiar with the schools/programs. I've heard of a few like Monticello, UCA and ASU, but don't know one from the other.

Arkansas State University has an online masters program, Masters of Science in Education. It is totally online. There are 10 courses in the program and the total cost is only $4950.
I am looking into becoming a teacher in Arkansas. My folks are getting older and live in NW Arkansas and its time I came home.
I live currently in NY State and work for the DOD. I did sub almost every day for an academic year (Fall 2005 to Summer 2006). I am researching and writting my Masters thesis currently (I hope to be done in May 08). I am looking to teach Art/Drama/Social Studies/and even English Lit. since I have 2 undergraduate and a graduate degree in these areas.
I am looking at the NTLP program.
Any ideas? Suggestions? Helpful hints? Anyone willing to hold my hand somewhat and guide me along toward this goal?
Many schools in NW AR, especially the big 4, will only hire a NTLP if it's the day before school starts and they have a last minute opening. Competition is fierce for jobs up here, and a lot of the admin have no interest in going through the NTLP process if they don't have to.
Oh, and no matter what degrees you have, you'll have to take the Praxis tests for each subject you want to teach. They can be a pain. And if you want to teach art, you have to add all this elementary stuff to your license, b/c art is a k-12 license. I looked at it, but there was no way I was taking all those elem ed classes.
When you do start looking, you might look in Fayetteville first. They tend to hire the most teachers who have advanced degrees that are in a content area rather than education. Hope this helped!
