This is my first time posting a message here, and i dont know or not if its going to get read. However im not past giving this a shot because it might lead some where. Im interested in having someone in the academic community read a short book i wrote posted on my site at [link removed].
My husband and I are planning on moving to Northwest Arkansas this summer and I have been job hunting. A lot of good offers, but haven't made up my mind. The two jobs I am most interested in are in Danville and Berryville. Any feed back or advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks
I would like to talk with 3rd grade teachers about integrating science, reading, and writing. I also want to integrate social studies, reading and writing. I am currently working ion this and would love to share and get ideas from other 3rd grade teachers.

I do a lot of thematic units in my class to cover all if not most of the subjects. For example, a unit on the human body systems allows students to work on various units of measurement and graphing in Mathmatics while learning research and writing skills as well as using their knowledge of various parts of speech in English. They can list adjectives to describe each body part, verbs to tell what each part does, etc. They can use reading concepts of sumarizing to place events in proper sequence. For history, they can study "famous bodies in history" or they can learn about contributions of individuals which relate to the bodu (such as who developed vaccines, the first open heart surgery, etc).
I line all of my units up with the state standards. However, I have the blessing of being allowed to write and use my own curriculum because I am not in a public school. If you are forced to be in chapter 7 of "x textbook" on "x day" as some schools are, then this concept might not be workable for you.
Does anyone know what a math coach's job is??? Does a teacher have the right to refuse another educator in your classroom. I would love to find a math position around the Conway area.

Thanks, Jessica, for your detailed response. I actually want to move to Arkansas to get a Master's degree at UofA, though not in education (I want to use it to segue OUT of education, in fact).
Thanks so much for the names of those small towns. I've applied at to the Fayetteville District, but may have more luck with the smaller places.

I'm also in Fayetteville and applying to the non-traditional licensure program. My undergraduate degree was in political science (with a minor in history, and I'm taking the Arkansas history class this coming spring). I practiced law for 15 years with a juris doctor from Cal-Berkeley.
Will I even have a shot at a secondary ed position in social sciences, history, or English in NW Arkansas or am I throwing good money after bad? I know the need in NW Ark isn't as dramatic as in, say, the Delta, so are alternative licensure folks a dime-a-dozen? I'd welcome some insight.
Does anyone know of job sharing among teachers in their district? How do teachers share the division of labor, and how could I convince my school district to do this? I'm looking at working part time next year... any other possbilities, ideas or suggestions would be helpful.
How are teachers teaching the newest set of standards for cellular respiration in Grade 5? The framework LS.2.5.10 states: Conduct investigations demonstrating the process of cellular respiration.
Are other teachers using activities with yeast to show their students cellular respiration?
This is an invitation to participate in a totally free event that will take place on September 11 and that will be, I believe, of special interest to teachers and librarians. As we are a public library in Illinois with absolutely no budget to give this event the publicity it deserves, we are hoping you will share the information with anyone you think might have an interest.
On September 11, 2006, the Bensenville Community Public Library District (a Chicago suburb) will present Marion Blumenthal Lazan live and in real time to anyone with an Internet connection. To participate, you merely install a small program (it loads in about 20 seconds), turn on your computer's speakers, then sit back and listen to Marion. If you also have a microphone attached to your computer, you will be able to speak with her and ask questions directly.
As a girl, Marion and her family were trapped in Hitler's Germany, and they spent six and a half years in refugee and concentration camps, including Westerbork in Holland and Bergen-Belsen in Germany. They were in a cattle car on their way to Auschwitz when they were finally liberated by Russian troops.
Now in her seventies, Marion is devoting the rest of her life to telling her story. She knows that in a few years there will be no Holocaust survivors left, yet what happened must never be forgotten. Her story does not dwell on the horror of what she experienced. Instead, her message is one of hope and optimism in the face of extraordinary hardship. She implores us to be kind to one another, to embrace diversity, to always retain hope, to respect one another, and to never look away from intolerance and cruelty. Could there be a more powerful or appropriate message on September 11?
Marion will speak to the children of the world on September 11, 2006, at 2:00 p.m., eastern time. She will speak for about 30 minutes, and she will then take questions. She will be speaking in an online auditorium, and there is no charge whatsoever to listen. Our hope is that thousands of children and their teachers will spend that hour on September 11 with Marion. She will tell a story of courage, hope, and the will to survive. Your students (and you) will be mesmerized and inspired.
For more information, including directions for registering for the program and logging onto the website where the online auditorium is located, please just reply to this message to: [email removed]].
If you have any questions or concerns, please direct them to me, Bill Erbes, [email removed].
We believe there will be much interest in this event if only we can get the word out that it will be happening. Any help you can offer in spreading the message will be most appreciated.
Thank you.
Bill Erbes Assistant Library Director Bensenville Community Public Library District 200 S. Church Road Bensenville, IL 60106 (630) 766-4642
I am wanting to move to the Springdale area next year. I am a teacher with a masters from Las Vegas. Are there many positions open? I do look on line, but I know here they post positions even when they are already filled. Does this area need teachers? Thank you for you help.

I am looking to move to the area near Ft. Smith. Have 26 years experience in teaching science. Do you know of any jobs available or who one might contact. Thanks,
