Have you heard about how they're considering overhauling the educational system in our state? What do you think of it?
I hope they don't do anything stupid... I doubt they'd be able to (they'd need voter approval or something, right?) It seems like every five years or so they want to impose something new on us... but this is a little extreme... too extreme, it's all just talk, right?
I have been considering moving to colorado for some time now and have been looking at school districts in the western portion.
I noticed a serious trend in these districts. The benefit explanations are either nonexistant or really really vague. My parents work in south west CO and they said the benefits are nothing to brag about, and almost something to cry about. Is this true?
any idea of the benefit situation in your schools would be really helpful.

Hello, I'm looking into moving to Colorado for teaching and I wanted to know if there were any teachers on this board who moved from Michigan. I'm from Michigan, so any info you have about the process would be helpful. Did you have to take the Praxis II (?). I'm doing my own research, but it's always good to hear from people who went through it first hand.
You all have to run from that pathetic hole in the earth you call a state. No economy, no jobs, nothing, so you come here to F up our children like the MI teachers have done to theirs. That's what was meant by the midwesterner's comment...we have a better standard of teacher here.

Wow you are awful cocky! I am glad that you were taught the difference between a generalization and a fact in school! I hope you are not a teacher in my child's classroom!!!!

I am a semi-finalist in DogshowUSA.com, an online dog show sponsored by Purina and NBC especially for the common, everyday dog, and that sure is me! I am a happy little pug living on a farm in Colorado with my retired school teacher mommy. I work very hard every day helping my daddy grow organic apples and stuff.
Please go vote for me right now. Here is the link. Click on EZZY the Pug. Thank you!
Am trying to locate phone number for a former teacher in Baltimore County, Maryland. Her name is (or was Kathleen J. Levstik) and she moved back to Colorado Springs a fair number of years ago and I understand was or is a fifth grade teacher in or near Colorado Springs. Thanks
I graduated from MSU in 2002 and have found it nearly impossible to obtain a teaching job here in Montana. Many teachers come here to teach one or two years, then retire here. I can't compete with teachers that have 20+ years experience! I've become discouraged and have decided to move to Colorado. (My family lives in Fort Collins). I have been reading some of the posts, however, and now am even more discouraged. Is there a ray of hope out there?? Tammie
My endorsements are English and History, secondary education (grades 5-12). I also have several masters credits toward an MA in history (I'm only 12 credits short). I've substituted in Bozeman and Livingston as well. I just can't support my family on a Montana substitute's salary ($60-$65 a day).
Thanks, Tam P.S. I have also been an LPN for 19 years. I think that could possibly be an asset in a rural school area, right? As I tell a lot of people - don't let other poster's bad experiences get you down. I moved here from out of state with 12 years experience and had my choice of 2 jobs in Douglas County and I wasn't even Colorado certified yet.
It just depends on timing, attitude, location and perseverence. Don't give up, think positive and do something that makes you stand out at interviews. Subbing will get your foot in the door but while subbing, be pro-active. Smile, laugh, participate, volunteer, go above and beyond. Let people know you would want to work there when an opportunity arises.
Perhaps having a nursing background would help if applying for the office staff position as they often have to give meds, etc. Not sure if it'd be a plus for a teaching position. Other than knowing you have patience and used to being overworked and underpaid!
Don't worry about competing with 'experienced teachers'. I've heard the opposite about hiring only 'newbies' because they are cheaper!
Does anyone know how long it takes for the CO Offices to complete a submitted application? I sent mine in almost 6 weeks ago and they cashed my check. How about the fingerprint clearance? Do they actually mail you a card like other states? Thanks!
It took 10 weeks (which I think is listed somewhere) to receive my license. I never received a special card for my fingerprints...

They really screwed mine up. I would turn one in 6 months in advance with them, triple check everything, and keep a full set of copies for yourself of EVERYTHING!
I turned mine in in January as mine expired in the end of April.
9 Days before my license is to expire I go online and see that my application was returned because the "Application was Incomplete"
Good luck trying to talk to a human being on the phone at CDE. I had to drive down to CDE.
I come to find out they lost a part of my application. Stupid me didn't keep copies of it. Lesson learned.
What made me mad was they didn't even take responsibility for the mistake. They inisited I didn't turn in that portion of the application.
Now I have to wait 3 days for my old application to be returned in the mail and then re-submit the entire thing and hope it gets approved in time.
This same thing happend to another teacher at my school and it cost her her tenure.
We have a 15yo son we will start homeschooling. Seeking help 3 days/week while mom works and dad in college. Open to teaching in our home or with another small group (as long as able to be certified through state). Prefer to incorporate Christian homeschool materials, but are open as long as in line with Christian values. Please email if interested: [email removed].

Has anyone been to the Colorado State teacher job fair? What was it like? Did you get serious interviews? I'm considering flying in from out of state for it and wanted to know if it was worth my time.
Definately, something to cry about.
