Your MI credentials should transfer. (See the CDE website for more info.)
What area of CO are you looking at to relocate?

Would anyone like to comment on this program? I am looking at a Masters degree in Elementary Education. It is accredited by NCATE and the programs would work well for me since I still work full time. It is also non-profit so If I work hard I can get out owing less. Anyone participate in this program or know others that did?
For the people that got a degree in education in Colorado, where did you go? What are the best schools? I was looking at Metro, mostly because of cost, but also becauseI knwo several people that go there and love it.
I know I would prefer to teach middle school or high school. Not sure what subject. Definitely not a math or science, but history, art or English. I think I would also enjoy special ed. Would love to work with the deaf or blind. I am kinda curious where I should go to school and what it is like out there for these subjects. Thanks
The best school for teachers is UNC (Greeley). It has always been the best. It will really help your resume.

Thank you for reading! Does anyone know if there really is a substantial difference in salary between holding a Bachelors and a Masters? I have a BA in Fine Art, looking to teach art, K- 8 or high school. Trying to decide if it's worth the time and money to go ahead and get my Masters, or if I should just spring for Licensure right now, since it sounds like experience might be more valued than education level...? I would love to start teaching this fall, but I'm not yet certified and have 0 experience -- any advice? Perhaps I should try charters? Thanks a mil!!
That is quite a difference either way, isn't it? May I ask what state you teach in? I'm really thinking about getting a Masters now, while I have the time. Thanks for the input!

I have been given the option of non-renewal or resignation by my principal. He refuses to give me specific reasons why. There are certain diffencencies in my teaching is all he will say. I have received a variety of pieces of advice anywhere from do not resign and fight it in front of the school board to choose another profession. I am a veteran teacher with 14 years experience and my first one in this district. Help!!! I am an excellent teacher with no black marks on my record.
I would look at it from a purely financial perspective. If they don't renew you, I believe you could claim unemployment. If you need the $,this is probably the best avenue.
On the other hand, if $ is not a factor, I would take the resign route. At least psychologically, you have the upper hand with that alternative.
Since you have 14 years in the education field, it would probably be too difficult to transition to another career. However, I have seen teachers take marketing positions with textbook and year book companies.
Don't let this course of events get you down, the education field is broken in my opinion. But that is a topic for another thread.

Change in Principal put me in the same position. I was advised by veterian professionals to resign as Non-Renewals are published in Board minutes and available to other districts, etc. I was able to claim unemployment in CO since it was not my "fault" that I was non-renewed. My resignation only stated personnal reasons.
I did not use that Principal as a reference (reasoning--Goals and Ideals did not match). I used current peer teachers, other former supervisiors and past Principal as references. Since my field is a bit limited, I did not find a new position until after the start of the following school year. New position is much better as I'm respected for my knowledge and much appreciated. FYI--others in my former building were choosing "sides" and either in the new Principals inside group that can do no wrong or on the outside and have to watch their backs. I just am very careful what I now say and who I talk to in my new building--distance is my defense so I can keep this job.
I too have many years in my field and am respected for my experience and knowledge but not by those that want to bring in their own staff and replace the old....
How have your evaluations been this year? You can always say that the position and staff didn't meet your expectations and leave it at that since you've only been there one year. Good Luck.

Hello, all. I graduated from UNC in December with a degree in music ed. I am currently looking for a job and wonder if any of you know of vacancies coming up in the 2008-09 school year. I would especially like to do HS vocal music, but I would also be willing to do elementary general music or a combined middle and high school vocal job.
If you hear about any openings in your area, please let me know. Thanks very much.
As of today, Douglas County has 3 elementary music positions open. Check out the website that I linked below.

Has anyone taken the CO French PLACE exam? I would love to know whether the written/oral questions are the same as the ones they mention on the PLACE study guide or if they were very different. Any feedback from someone who took the test recently would be appreciated. Also, how long did the exam take you? Merci!
I would like to know, too. I have to take the test on Saturday... On 4/09/08, Ann wrote: > Has anyone taken the CO French PLACE exam? Just checking to see if any current Colorado teachers are familiar with Cued Speech or have had a transliterator in their classrooms. My district will be getting their first student who utilizes Cued Speech and I'm trying to learn more about it. We're trying to organize some Cued Speech Classes for the Denver Metro area. I'd love your feedback or comments.
